Chapter 160: Competing For Space
Chapter 160: Competing For Space
Well... I’ve got a better idea of what the bunny girls were planning thanks to that meeting at least...
Now we’re heading to another meeting with the Guardians this time.
I let out a sigh as I materialised my floating hands, still trying to get used to them to make myself able to use them like a full extension of myself.
I’m letting the arms out right now since everyone here already knows who I am so there’s no need to hide my abilities, especially since we were meeting in the living space for the Guardians and not a meeting room.
I walked in with Olivia to find the Guardians all standing around the common area with bags that I assumed were their belongings that they intended to leave here.
Leena jolted when she saw me, "Mortal God was here?"
I waved at them, "Hello~ I just came here of my own according. Don’t worry about it."
Ava giggled, "Ara? Seems like someone was keeping your presence to themselves so that they can monopolise you~"
Olivia narrowed her eyes at her and very subtly pulled her skirt down to lengthen it before pretending to ignore her.
I stood beside Olivia as she addressesd them while tapping on her phone.
"As all of you know... We will be opening this floor up to let Guardians of my Lord stay here. But since there have been some disagreements over who gets which room... We will have to settle this here."
Eh? They were quarreling over room arrangements? Does that even matter? Aren’t all the rooms basically the same in design? What’s there to fight over?
Leena gestured at herself, "As someone with experience in guarding, I should be the one taking the room closest to the penthouse lift."
Kris cleared his throat, "Ahem... No, no... Clearly the person with more defensive power should be located there. I’m pretty sure I fit that description better than all of you so I should be the one taking the room closest to the penthouse lift~"
Surprisingly, even Jia Lian joined in, "Umm... I... I think... I think I should be the one with the higher defensive power... Right?"
Ava tapped her staff on the ground, "Ara, ara? I believe it’s the opposite, no? The one with the strongest firepower should be the one occupying that space instead. So the room closest to the lift that leads to my Divine’s domain should go to me~"
Err... Are they fighting over who gets the room closest to my lift? Why the heck would they do something like that? I mean... Is there even a difference between that room and all the other rooms? Is it bigger or what?
And it seems like the only person who didn’t join in was Sergei who was just watching the whole thing from the corner of the room.
Olivia’s heel tapped on the ground impatiently, "Since there’s so many of you competing for that one room, we would resort to drawing lots to decide who gets that room."
Eh? There’s two rooms next to the elevator though... Oh wait. I guess Olivia is claiming one of the rooms for herself by her right as my next in command.
Ava hummed, "I have a better idea~ I think my Divine should be the one who picks who gets to stay there instead~ What do you think, my Divine?"
Everyone turned to me at the same time.
I immediately raised all four of my hands to show a sign of surrender, "I don’t think this is a big enough thing for me to decide... I think it’s better if you guys were to settle this on your own..."
That was just my excuse for not getting involved in this since whoever I sided with would undoubtedly upset whoever I did not.
Olivia turned back to the group, "We’ll go with the original plan in that case. I’ve already prepared the sticks here so everyone will draw one to decide who gets the room. There will be no more discussions about this once this has been settled."
She reached into her pocket and pulled out a handful of sticks to thrust it out towards the group.
But contrary to her expectations, no one moved to pick a stick from her.
Ava tutted at the red Oni, "Oh come now, Olivia~ You can’t expect us to agree to something like that~ I admit that I would like to have the right to get the room permanently for myself, but if you attach the condition that no one will be able to overturn it later... Even I wouldn’t accept a deal like that."
Olivia frowned at her, "In that case, what are you suggesting then?"
"Ufufufu~ Isn’t it simple? The room closest to Mortal God’s domain should be the strongest to protect him against intruders. What better way to find out than having a competition to find out who is the best for that position? We do have a room that is perfect for that, right?"
Err... I’m pretty sure that room isn’t able to withstand the full power of any of my Guardians if they went all out on each other.
But well... If they limit the strength of their attacks, I think it should be fine, I guess?
If they wait for me to get the materials I need to create the formation inside the training room though... It should be able to withstand their power.
Kris then clapped his hands together, "Oh!! I got an even better idea! We can make this into a periodic event that we can compete over! Maybe every three or six months or so we get to fight over the rights of the room so even newcomers can join in too!"
Oh? That’s a surprising idea to come from Kirs.
"You want to open this possibility up to newcomers as well?" Olivia asked.
He gestured at her, "Of course~ And this would also include you, Miss Olivia~"
She frowned, "What do you mean? As my Lord’s right hand, I have to remain close to my Lord at all times. Which means one of the rooms here should be assigned to me."
The catboy wagged his finger, "That’s what you say... And while all of us know your strength, the newcomers might not so they could possibly harbour some resentment for you, you know? Isn’t this the perfect opportunity for you to showcase your authority? Or maybe... You don’t have faith in your own strength?"
Kris was smirking at her while Olivia was looking at him with narrowed eyes.
How cunning...
I realised this was Kris’s way of putting Olivia’s room up for grabs as well.
He does make a good point about the newcomers not respecting Olivia’s authority and this being the easiest way for her to establish her authority though...
Olivia clucked her tongue, "I suppose we can do that. For now, only one of the rooms will be put up for the challenge. After that, we can decide on how long the rotation will last after the first round."
Jia Lian raised her hand, "Umm... How will we decide the competition? Will it be a battle royale where we fight to the last one standing?"
Olivia seemed to consider it for a moment before her lips suddenly curled up into a smile, "No... I have a better idea. We will hold this fight in a round robin format and we will draw lots to decide the match ups. I will even include myself in this competition as well just to make it fair."
Ah... Olivia really just wants to fight all of them... And this would allow her to fight even more...
I could see the expectation on Kris’s face drain away slightly when he realised that his plan had backfired a little on him.
Well... The fact that he didn’t see this was his blunder... And I’m actually enjoying this too much to call it out.
Olivia then took the sticks and drew new markings on them before holding them out once more, "We will decide the first match ups here. Everyone take a stick."
That was when Leena brought up the issue that I was worried about from the beginning, "While I do not mind this arrangement in the slightest... I just want to know if the training room will be able to handle all of us fighting each other in such a confined space? What if we end up destroying the tower?"
Everyone’s mood immediately plummeted when they realised that was indeed a problem.
I guess that’s where I step in, "Well... If you guys don’t mind waiting until the Bunarfs gather the materials I need... I could reinforce the training room so that you guys can fight as much as you want."
Olivia nodded, "Very well. In that case, we shall leave that room empty for now. We shall hold the challenge once everything has been prepared."
Ava pointed at her, "You just want to take advantage of that to occupy your room uncontested for a longer period of time."
The red Oni puffed up her chest, "I am. What are you going to do about it?"
Ava smirked, "Then I suppose I will just have to move into my Divine’s room for now~"
I could almost see the sparks flying between my Guardians when she declared that.
Umm... Maybe I should just go somewhere else at this point?
