Warhammer 30: The Second Legion's Expedition

Chapter 6 For Humanity

Chapter 6 For Humanity

"Are you fearing prophecy, Hector?"

Makado's voice betrayed disappointment.

Hector, however, disagreed.

He said, "I have never believed in so-called prophecies, nor have I ever trusted that there are any gods in this world."

"The reason I have failed to change the status quo of Troy is simply that my people still need this ignorance to give themselves hope of survival, and that my time is not yet sufficient to change this land, with its rules that have been in place for countless millennia."

"I believe that everything should abide by the most basic laws of physics. So-called gods are nothing more than speculation and fear of unknown technology and unknown forces."

"If one day, a so-called, prayed-to deity dares to appear before me and shamelessly tells me that He is a god, a deity worshipped by countless lives."

"Then I will definitely ask Him before I cut off His head."

"Is His existence, His character, His miracles, His stories, and His hobbies exactly the same as those told by His believers?"

As Hector spoke, a perpetually mocking smile curled at the corners of his lips.

In that brief moment, only two answers came to mind for everyone regarding this statement.

Deception, and ————

sad!

"Gods are defined by humans!"

Hector's voice rose again, his eyes filled with resolute and unyielding will: "Then how can so-called gods be more noble than humans!"

The golden light emanating from the emperor grew even brighter.

Narcissus lowered his head with longing and pain.

Even with his eyes closed, Narcissus could no longer bear the light.

Contrary to his actions of dodging, Priam disregarded his blindness and stared intently at the miracle before him.

Priam has gone blind.

However, he did not completely lose his perception of everything around him.

He has become more perceptive than ever before.

The old king saw the anger mixed with panic in his proudest son's concern, saw Narcissus's infatuated and wandering gaze, and noticed the majestic Emperor and Macardo, who were as imposing as mountains and rivers.

"Child." He spontaneously performed a hawk salute with his hands on his chest, uttering his first words upon arriving here.

He called out to Hector, who was launching an attack.

"Thank you for your kindness."

"You deserve it," the Emperor said.

Tears streamed down Priam's empty eyes: "No, I wasn't talking about my eyes. I was talking about... Hector."

my child.

Priam still couldn't bring himself to say those four words.

"Leave with them, child."

Hector was stunned.

He looked at Priam's face, which refused surgery and aged naturally.

Is this still his father who prayed incessantly in his room?

Hector remained silent; he did not yield to Priam's words.

A silence returned to the small room. Seeing this, Narcissus took the initiative to bring up the subject: "Your Majesty, what kind of assistance can the Empire provide us, such as resource allocation to Troy and taxation requests?"

Makado glanced at his increasingly impatient old friend.

He could tell that the Emperor really liked this Number Two, but Number Two's stubbornness was making this old friend, who had developed a path dependency, increasingly impatient and helpless.

Faced with this situation, Macado had already anticipated that if things did not improve, then the ruler of the Kingdom of Troy in the Realm of Ilios would take a short nap for two days.

Their next appearance would likely be a staring contest with the Astartes of the Second Legion.

In order to prevent this possibility from occurring.

Macado sighed inwardly, the 2K joke Neos had told him popping into his mind.

This empire won't end without him.

He took out a stack of catalogs and a palm-sized holographic projection device from his pocket.

"This includes the Empire's tax policies, technological support, trade fleets, interstellar routes, and resource subsidies, resource allocation, and combat needs for the legions led by Hector after his return to the Empire."

Narcissus looked on, and the more he looked, the more astonished he became; the more he looked, the more his body leaned forward.

He produced a mechanical prosthetic eye from somewhere and began to examine it word by word, comparing it with the catalog in his hand.

A suppressed, low laugh reached Hector's ears, sending chills down his spine.

He had a vague feeling that he was about to be sold.

"What do you mean by 'the follow-up only takes effect when the Second Primarch returns to the Empire and joins the Great Crusade'?"

A sharp, extremely undignified bang came from Narcissus's mouth.

"Your Majesty." The next second, Narcissus straightened his makeup and clothes, his expression serious.

The infatuation with Hector had vanished from his eyes: "For the greater prosperity of Troy, for humanity, for the Empire, for the greater good, we should immediately join this glorious expedition!"

"How much did they pay that you could sell your own king?" Hector couldn't help but say.

He also started watching the projection intently.

As the Primarch, the Emperor's most perfect creation, he saw things far more clearly and quickly than Narcissus.

The conditions presented in the projection were so favorable that Hector was so shocked that his lips trembled slightly.

"Am I really that valuable?" Hector couldn't help but wonder to himself.

Hector wavered. The Empire had given him far too much. This was not something a newly merged empire should have. It was more like an unequal treaty signed after Troy had completely defeated the Empire.

To be honest, this has crossed his bottom line.

He hasn't immediately prostrated himself in worship yet, entirely out of the last vestiges of his dignity.

Who made Hector's previous statements so definitive and grandiose?

Macardo saw this and stopped the emperor in advance, who was eager to use his "astounding wisdom" to solve the problem brutally.

He threw out his final bargaining chip after negotiating with the Emperor, hypothetically, if Hector, fearing the prophecy, refused to leave in the end:

"We allow the planets and star systems you conquer to be placed under the rule of the Ilios Domain."

"For the Empire," Narcissus said first.

Hector's superhuman brain went blank for a moment, and Narcissus lightly elbowed his thigh.

Hector chose the most correct answer in an instant, and he declared emphatically:

"For humanity!"

······

······

"Your Highness, are you really going to do this...?" The samurai cried with a mournful face.

He looked at Prince Paris, who was eager to try and had changed into a white outfit and was wearing a laurel wreath. He felt as if he had lost his parents.

His Majesty Hector will surely cut off his head and hang it on the city wall.

"What nonsense are you spouting!" Paris said, displeased.

"Lead the way. Based on my understanding of my brother, they will definitely invite the Emperor to watch the competition after they finish dealing with this."

"I will prove to my brother, the Emperor, my father, and everyone in Troy that I am, besides my brother, the most powerful warrior in the Empire!"

"Glory belongs to the royal family!"
