Chapter 31 Iron 7's Rebellion
Chapter 31 Iron 7's Rebellion
The first Astartes to launch an attack gathered in the middle hive of Iron Seven's largest hive.
This includes Salpedon, who initially raised the questions.
After stepping onto the surface, he called for support and took Menelaus, whom Hector wanted. He then spoke with Paris, who had issued the summons.
"This is unnecessary."
Salpedon ignored the more complaining than sarcastic remark, even though he could have easily countered it with the argument that it was a consequence of their failure to follow the Legion's code of conduct.
Paris did indeed receive the summons from the six company commanders and frankly stated the legitimate reason for requesting a meeting to discuss the matter in detail, given the urgency of the situation.
But Salpedon didn't do that, not only because it was unnecessary, but also because he knew his companion's feelings.
They simply believed that their actions betrayed the natural class of the Trojans, and that their behavior would give Prince Paris a bad impression.
Salpedon didn't care about that.
He took the initiative to approach Paris.
At this moment, Paris was standing among the six company commanders who could initiate the rally. His position and aura subtly made him a guide.
"Sir," Salpedon said.
Paris was discussing and formulating a plan with his company commanders.
He also sensed someone approaching him, so at the same moment Salpedon spoke, Paris looked in Salpedon's direction.
Although Salpedon was wearing his helmet, Paris recognized him instantly by his distinctive shoulder armor and the voice he had just spoken to.
"The Salpedon Brothers".
Paris smiled, however, and did not respond to Salpedon's address of "sir".
Besides Achilles himself, who had already challenged everyone in his current company two years after completing his basic training and Astartes modification surgery and receiving his power armor, almost no one was his match except for the company commander.
After careful consideration, Hector promoted the company commander to a special branch of the Second Army, making him Hector's personal bodyguard (stretcher team).
Achilles, on the other hand, received the reward of the first Trojan Warrior Selection, becoming the company commander of that unit.
But he was the only one. All the other Trojans, including Paris, who participated in the first selection of warriors, were given officer positions; the rest were just recruits.
Paris did not receive any preferential treatment from Hector, at least not outwardly.
Salpedon's face beneath his metallic helmet was expressionless.
He was like a silent sculpture.
With the assembly order authorized by the company commander, Salpedon had no right to question it.
But when he saw Paris standing among all the company commanders, he instinctively felt distrust.
In his eyes, this Trojan prince was far less convincing than Hector, the Trojan king and commander of the Second Legion.
In Salpedon's eyes, he was like a domesticated, willful, and favored pet, a pet favored and pampered by King Hector.
During his time as Astartes, countless pieces of evidence have proven that Paris, one of only two members of the royal family, participated in a match and duel that he should never have participated in.
Regardless of how much his bravery and indomitable spirit were portrayed on the field, in the more pragmatic Salpedon's eyes, he only saw an ugly, stubborn, and childish act of refusing to admit defeat.
In particular, he had compared Paris's lip movements, sword swings, and chaotic footsteps during the match.
As a result, Salpedon subconsciously believed that Paris was using his power as a prince and the brother of the legion commander to forcibly seize command.
His motive might simply stem from jealousy that Achilles had become a company commander; he needed to gain merit. Salpedon suspected Paris's intentions with the utmost malice.
"My squad found something that's not good news," Paris said.
He was not angered by Salpedon's silence, but instead frankly picked up the evidence in his hand, which was an extremely disgusting and ugly naked fleshy wing.
"Alien." Salpedon's voice sounded deep and resonant through his powered helmet.
Even so, one could still detect anger and surprise in his tone.
"Yes." Paris's expression hardened, becoming extremely serious.
At the same time, his face, which was not wearing a helmet, showed anger and disgust.
When each qualified recruit becomes an Astartes, the Legion shows them videos, recordings, and even catalogs.
The broadcasts never report on human victories, but rather on Astartes being defeated, brutally dismembered, and killed by the hateful and hideous aliens.
Watching their corpses being desecrated, devoured, and humiliated.
This resulted in all recruits becoming Astartes being the most extreme racists, with virtually no exceptions.
"I found this piece of fleshy wing that had been severed by a weapon. It's hard to believe that it still radiates vitality, albeit very faintly, and according to the information I have."
"The Salpedon Brothers".
"We haven't received any information about this damned alien, and the planetary governor here is hiding it from us."
"Damn traitor!" Kashin, the company commander of the 3rd Company of the 17th Regiment of the 8th Company, angrily pounded his breastplate.
The echoing sound attracted the soldiers who were resting and gathering, and they all turned their attention to it.
A small number of soldiers began to move in this direction; they were undoubtedly leaders of their respective squads.
Paris did not stop them from approaching. He had originally planned to explain after everyone had gathered, but now that they were all together, there was no need to hide anything.
"The situation is very serious." Salpedon's dissatisfaction vanished instantly. As his surprise was answered, he was equally furious.
The presence of traces of firearms proves that the defense forces here have engaged in combat with the aliens, while the absence of obvious alien traces suggests that humans must be the dominant species here.
However, the planetary governor here failed to report this and concealed it.
In the Empire's current Great Expedition priorities, besides retrieving the Primarch and collecting taxes, the next priority is to exterminate the Xenomorphs, especially all Xenomorphs that pose a threat to humanity.
This goes far beyond human rebellion within the planet.
During the six-year expedition from M30.827 to M30.833, Salpedon and others, as new recruits, especially those who had just undergone surgery and had not yet been fitted with armor, had already followed the veterans of the First Company to completely wipe out at least seven alien races.
None of them felt a shred of pity for the aliens.
The Emperor and the Father of Genesis may not be proud of firing at unarmed aliens, but they will certainly be ashamed of letting them go.
"I tried to contact the ships to relay information."
"But without exception, all methods of transmission succeeded, except for receiving commands and information."
"I find it strange that this rebellion, which originated from miners, did not require any application to the Empire for a suppression fleet, and was able to sustain itself for such a long time without logistical support."
"I found the company commanders and made that clear."
Upon hearing this, the veterans from Terra nodded in agreement, clearly convinced by Paris's evidence and facts.
"This is why I have summoned you here, brothers Salpedon."
"I am at least 90 percent certain that this is a conspiracy, a conspiracy against the Empire, a conspiracy against the Legion."
"I request the company commander to temporarily assemble and form a battalion-level unit. We need to go to the planetary governor to find out the reason."
"I don't know how you see me, brother, but I roughly understand it's probably the same as the casual conversations in Troy a few years ago."
"I am a spoiled and willful fledgling sheltered under my brother's wings. I am not trustworthy. I have many flaws that they have fabricated. Some of them may really exist, and some may not."
"But, brother, everything I did was not out of selfish desire."
Paris craves Hector's genuine approval, even though his actions and his willfulness are taking him further and further away from his goals.
But Paris still yearned for it.
"This is my brother's army."
Paris gently patted Salpedon's iconic shoulder armor, his gaze sincere.
Salpedon remained silent, then removed his helmet and looked Paris directly into his eyes.
I apologize for my disrespectful speculation.
"Prince Paris"
