Chapter 62 Jason Todd
Chapter 62 Jason Todd
Oswald walked halfway around the factory building and returned to the main entrance, only to find the workshop door open.
Peeking inside, I was surprised to see Qin Wei and Jason fighting.
The little penguin didn't recognize Jason, but he was deeply impressed by the red-hooded guy who had given him a concussion two years ago. After being knocked down, the guy even kicked a soccer ball at his own head.
Oswald found it hard to describe what it felt like to get infected; he only felt that his head was like a walnut being crushed by a hydraulic press.
After clearly hearing the sound of his skull cracking, he thought he was going to die.
So when Jason put on the familiar hood in front of him earlier, his heart suddenly raced, and the familiar sense of oppression caused his palms to sweat rapidly.
Although his boxing skills have improved a lot in recent years, he has no confidence at all when facing Jason.
But Oswald quickly noticed something was wrong; his opponent's punches had become slow and weak. This was definitely not due to a lack of training; his opponent was clearly stronger than he had been two years ago.
For some reason, Oswald sensed that Jason's heart was filled with hesitation.
This hesitation even carried over into his battle against Qin Wei.
Qin Wei thought that by clearing his mind and relying on instinct, he could dodge the opponent's attack, but in fact, it was not necessary to go through so much trouble. Jason's punches were as unsteady as a beginner's. Although his previous shadow punches were exceptionally powerful, they slowed down when he hit a person.
Jason, however, seemed oblivious to the problem, relentlessly attacking with punches and kicks, but Qin Wei dodged every single one.
"What are you thinking about!" Qin Wei asked.
……
"What are you thinking about!"
A can of ice-cold Coke was poured over Jason's head, eliciting laughter from those around him. The boys playing frisbee on the lawn and the cheerleaders rehearsing for football all turned to look at him.
A crumpled aluminum can hit him on the head, and Dave, as usual, snatched the things from his hands—sometimes a wallet, sometimes chocolates given by a girl.
This time it's a book.
"Introduction to Financial Management? What are you, a country bumpkin, doing studying this stuff! Don't think that graduating from Gotham University will make you rich and powerful. No company will hire a lowlife from the lower districts!"
The henchmen added a few dry laughs, even though they didn't find it funny most of the time. But as long as Dave smiled, they had to play along, or Jason's fate would be their future.
The title of being the son of a department store director and a distant relative of the Elliott family was enough to earn Dave considerable respect and admiration, while those who opposed him usually met with bad ends.
"Listen up, Jason! I'm throwing an awesome party this weekend, all the popular guys will be there, but guess which country bumpkin isn't coming?"
Dave glanced at his henchmen, signaling them to hurry up and take over.
"You!"
"That's right, it's you! We'll be partying all night, and there will be some hot strippers, but a country bumpkin from the lower district doesn't deserve to be in my house."
Jason wasn't angry; he hadn't planned on attending the party anyway. He'd received a message from his men this morning that the Romans were plastering flyers all over the lower district, and he had to rush back tonight to figure out what kind of painful lesson it would take for those bastards to learn their lesson.
Dave threw the book at Jason's stunned face, annoyed by the latter's indifferent reaction.
"Hillbilly! You better listen to me!" Dave's fat body pounced on Jason, grabbing him by the collar.
"What kind of look is that? Lift your head up!"
Jason obediently looked up, his fists clenching involuntarily.
He wasn't angry; once he finished his studies, he could leave school and never have anything to do with scum like Dave again for the rest of his life.
But Dave keenly noticed his actions.
"Why are you clenching your fist? Do you want to hit me?!" Dave's angry face contorted, and spittle splattered onto Jason's eyelids.
"This is your best chance yet! Give me a good punch! I can't wait to see you get expelled from school! And of course, when you return to that drafty, dark basement, you'll find a court summons on the floor!"
Jason wasn't angry at Dave's blatant provocation, but he still frowned.
The provocative look earned him a punch from Dave.
Dave punched Jason to the ground and spat on him.
"Damn country bumpkin, go to hell!" Feeling awkward, Dave hooked his arm around his henchman's shoulder and left.
The weak punch from Dave didn't even hurt Jason; it was like a gentle caress. Even a ten-year-old in the lower district would have a punch ten times stronger.
Jason still felt a lot of pain.
Why do I feel pain? This is how the world is supposed to be.
Dave's unwarranted bullying stems from the century-long divide between the upper and lower classes in Gotham, a rift rooted in bloodline, status, and discrimination that is irreparable.
Jason hypnotized himself, telling himself that he would keep enduring this until he finished his studies.
But he could never have imagined that three nights later, he would drive the Batmobile and smash through the exterior wall of Dave's villa, turning the party into a sea of fire.
……
Jason was defeated, and Qin Wei knocked him to the ground again in almost the same way.
Jason turned his head, but this time it wasn't a shoe stepping on his face, or even a can of cola being poured over his head.
Qin Wei extended his hand.
Unlike Dick, Jason's turning point hasn't arrived yet. But compared to the turning point, the problems in this kid's heart are so serious that even an outsider like Qin Wei can see through them at a glance.
To recruit Jason, you must help this young man resolve the inner conflict that has plagued him for years.
Qin Wei's idea is good, but unfortunately it's not the right time yet.
Jason shoved his hand away.
"Who do you think you are!" Jason pulled off his hood, revealing a red face that was panting heavily.
Qin Wei wasn't annoyed and stepped aside to indicate that Jason could leave.
"Damn it! What kind of attitude is that? Who does he think he is?!" Oswald glared, rolled up his sleeves, and was about to beat Jason up when Qin Wei stopped him.
"Don't be impulsive, he'll come back."
Qin Wei had an idea. Since the usual methods couldn't get into this big boy's heart, he decided to try the comic book approach.
After Jason left, he dialed Victor's number:
"Hey friend, Batmobile... no, I mean, that all-terrain armored vehicle, are you done setting it up for me?"
"Delivery can be made to your door tonight, as long as the address you provide is accurate!"
Qin Wei hung up the phone with a smile. Jason Todd's trap was now online, and the development of events would have to be left to the storyline.
