Chapter 207, Section 104: The Situation at Wayne Manor (Part 1)
Harvey immediately drew his gun and fired.
The bullet pierced the claw's skull, splattering blood onto the wall.
Gordon was awakened from his sleep by gunshots. As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw a dark figure hurtling towards him. In a fit of rage, the old man didn't care who the other person was and immediately punched him away. He then jumped off the bed and placed his full weight on the corpse.
Only then did he realize that the enemy had been killed by a headshot.
"What's going on?!"
He looked at Brock and Harvey, still shaken, only to find that they both had the same bewildered expression.
"Looks like the base has been exposed. Let's put on our clothes and prepare to break out!" Harvey was the first to react. He shrank into the shadows in the corner, aiming his gun at the half-open doorway to buy the two of them time to prepare.
The assassin who launched the sneak attack didn't demonstrate any particularly high level of skill, and considering the commotion upstairs, Harvey guessed that there might be more than one attacker.
His guess was quickly confirmed. Three more claws were drawn by the gunshot. The first one was taken down by Harvey, who was lying in ambush, as it rushed into the house. The second one was locked in a fierce battle with Gordon, who was covered in bandages. As for the third one, it pinned Brock against the wall.
Seeing that Gordon could hold out for the time being, Harvey put away his gun and prepared to support Brock. But to his surprise, the attacker who had just been shot in the head and had his neck broken by Gordon got up from the pool of blood and brandished his blade to stab him.
Harvey then realized that these guys were very likely the courtroom claws Qin Wei had mentioned.
What should we do? How can we deal with these unkillable monsters?
As Harvey hesitated, the other claw he had ambushed recovered from its fatal wound, and the two enemies attacked Harvey from the left and right.
Just at this critical moment, a large hand suddenly reached out from outside the dark door, grabbed one of the claws by the neck, and dragged him out.
Then a crisp "rip" sound rang out in the corridor, as if a piece of burlap was being violently torn apart.
Then came the sound of gushing tears, and soon blood flowed from the dark corridor into the room.
Before Harvey could figure out what was happening, the large hand reached in from outside the door again, but this time Thomas's bloodstained, half-smiling face was also visible in the shadows.
Harvey's impression of Thomas was still based on Dr. Reed, who treated his injuries. Little did he know that after only a few days, the gentle and refined Dr. Reed would turn into a smiling butcher.
"These guys aren't actually that hard to deal with. Watch closely, I'll demonstrate this only once."
As Thomas explained, he grabbed Harvey's head, which was entangled in claws, and slammed it hard against the wall.
Taking advantage of the moment when Claw was dazed and confused, the man reached out and stabbed Claw's face with both hands, roughly tearing off the mask and sticking it into the victim's mouth.
Harvey frowned; he already knew what the other party wanted to do.
"That's right, just as you think—"
Thomas was shirtless at this moment, and as he stretched his arms outward, the veins in his thick forearms bulged.
Under such violent tearing, the jaw was ripped off.
Stab it!
Blood gushed from the laceration.
With lightning-fast reflexes, Thomas reached out precisely just as the claws were about to fall, prying the amber-gold composite material from the opponent's upper jaw.
"80% of the time, claws are used as teeth for transplants because it is the least painful. The courts are happy to see them choose this method because it is very convenient to handle. Like me, most executioners use this method."
Thomas said casually, effortlessly resolving the trouble with Brock and Gordon.
"Okay, you coward, the problem's solved!"
He raised his voice and shouted towards the door. Dr. Reed, who was also a clone, shrank back and looked around. Only after seeing the corpses all over the floor did he let out a long sigh of relief.
Thomas's smile deepened. The more timid and cowardly Dr. Reed was, the more he could find a sense of superiority in him. He was now increasingly convinced that he could replace the real Thomas Elliott.
Moreover, only he can replace him!
This sense of superiority led him to take the initiative to protect this temporary squad, whereas normally Thomas would have been too lazy to meddle in other people's business.
"Come, gentlemen, let me lead the charge and shield you from the swords. Now let us return to the ground and rejoin the main force."
Everyone nodded and focused their attention on Thomas, which made the clone feel for the first time what it felt like to be respected and needed.
Ah! Yes, that's it! You need me more, you bunch of useless trash, you can't get anywhere without me.
Of course, it's not just you guys, even Bruce is the same. Without my help, how could he have completed the plan so easily?
Alexander Staunton was relieved that raiding Wayne Manor seemed like an easier task than going head-to-head with those unlucky guys against Raytheon.
Moreover, the solo mission he received this time was quite easy.
Kill the court traitor Lucius Fox.
He felt that dealing with an ordinary researcher who was over fifty years old was not something he needed to do personally; any ordinary claw under his command could handle it.
So, compared to Efraim and the Dragonflight, he seemed quite relaxed after storming into Wayne Manor, leading dozens of Talons on a stroll in the torrential rain. Ostensibly, he was searching the manor for Lucius's testing ground, but in reality, he just wanted to take this opportunity to get some fresh air.
Because once the mission is complete, he will be put back into the ice coffin by the court, and it is unknown when he will wake up.
He raised his head, letting the torrential rain soak his mask, the water trickling into his mouth through the fabric's seams.
The rain in Gotham always tastes the same, with a slightly bitter and sour flavor.
However, the freedom did not last long. Soon after, news came from his men that a cave leading underground had been discovered in a dry well.
Alexander waved his hand, gathering the claws scattered throughout the manor.
"Come on, let's finish our work for tonight."
The somber Claws descended the dry well into an underground cave, and after crossing a rushing dark river, the view suddenly opened up before them.
Just as he suspected, this was Lucius's newly built office space.
The court documents showed that the other party was a workaholic, and that was indeed the case. Lucius had clearly spotted Claw's figure on the surveillance camera at the entrance, but he still chose to lower his head and continue adjusting the equipment.
He is now designing a suitable mode of transportation for the two brothers, and he has finally come up with some ideas, so Lucius does not want to be interrupted.
He then glanced at Chato, who was resting in a corner of the cave.
"I've heard that a demon dwells within you, and it easily goes out of control whenever you unleash fire?"
What are you trying to say?
Upon receiving the enemy attack signal from Catwoman, he immediately returned to the Batcave, as Lucius and Tim still needed protection.
However, because he had been drained of mana by Night Owl earlier, he was currently out of mana and needed some time to recover, so he simply raised one eyelid and lazily glanced at Lucius.
"I can make you a suit of armor that should be able to collect your excess, dissipated energy and improve the accuracy and duration of your fire-casting."
"7
"real?"
Chato opened both of his eyes.
In fact, he longed to have a suit of armor similar to those worn by Will and Night Owl, but firstly, he wasn't familiar with Lucius, and secondly, he was just a mercenary hired by the team. After thinking it over, Chato ultimately didn't have the nerve to ask.
But now Lucius brought it up on his own initiative, which surprised and delighted him.
"Your needs are a bit special. I need to get your body data before I can design a plan for you."
Lucius took out a temperature sensor and placed it on the table.
"A group of sparring partners just arrived. If it's convenient for you, it would be a good option to test your skills with them."
