Chapter 76 Night Wanderer
Chapter 76 Night Wanderer
More than ten iron chariots and over thirty ghost messengers, dragged along by those giant hedgehogs, came after them, making a very grating, scraping sound.
"It's over! Brother, are we going to be boiled in oil or beheaded?" Monk Yuanzhi was terrified.
"Stop talking nonsense, let's run!"
Zhou Fengchen hoisted Zhang Qing onto his shoulder, gave him a tug, and then took off running.
As they ran, Monk Yuanzhi asked, "The key is, we don't know what's ahead!"
"Never mind where we are, let's run!"
The two of them ran forward with their heads down, both feeling that it was incredibly exciting. Being chased by a group of ghost messengers, there was nothing more thrilling than this.
After running for ten minutes, it was pitch black ahead, and I had no idea where I was. Meanwhile, the ghost messengers were getting closer and closer, and they were even shouting orders.
"Woo-ha—A living person has entered the underworld, leaving behind a soul!"
"I'm so frustrated!" Monk Yuanzhi looked neither like he was crying nor laughing.
"I'm even more frustrated," Zhou Fengchen said. "I came here to find my sister, but I ended up getting into a fight with the ghost messengers. I don't know where my sister is now, and I'm so worried."
As they were talking, Monk Yuanzhi turned around, glanced at the scene, and shouted, "Watch out for the fishhook!"
Zhou Fengchen was still wondering where the fishhook came from. He turned around and saw that the nearest hedgehog-shaped vehicle was right behind him. The three ghost messengers on it all had a sinister white face, grinned, and had a mouthful of black teeth. They looked terrifying. The leader was holding a fishing rod and flicked the hook towards Zhou Fengchen's neck.
"Xuanqi, Tongming Finger!" Zhou Fengchen quickly flicked his hand, and the fishhook was sent flying back, getting caught on the hedgehog's head. The hedgehog paused, its body shriveled, and it died instantly!
"Snapped!"
The car overturned, and the three ghost messengers fell flat on their backs on the ground.
Zhou Fengchen broke out in a cold sweat and quickly pulled Monk Yuanzhi along to keep running forward.
Just then, another hedgehog-shaped carriage appeared ahead, with only one ghost messenger inside.
"Damn it! Someone tried to steal it! I'll kill that coward!" Monk Yuanzhi got angry and started yelling in his hometown dialect. He didn't have any magic weapons on him, so he took off his shoes and charged forward to fight, not caring whether they would work or not.
Unexpectedly, the ghost messenger chuckled evilly, "Wait! Zhou Fengchen, Monk Yuanzhi, I've come to rescue you. Get in the carriage quickly!"
Zhou Fengchen paused for a moment and exchanged a glance with the monk Yuanzhi, who was about to fight. It was the ghost messenger that the man named Sun Zhenguo had encountered and who had tricked them.
"Don't just stand there, they're catching up!" The ghost messenger was getting anxious.
Zhou Fengchen gritted his teeth, gave Monk Yuanzhi a wink, and the two of them quickly climbed into the car.
The ghost messenger shouted, and the giant hedgehog ran forward frantically.
Before long, they had left the ghost messengers far behind.
Zhou Fengchen and Monk Yuanzhi breathed a slight sigh of relief. Zhou Fengchen asked the ghost messenger with a wary look, "Why did you save us? What's the meaning of this?"
The ghost messenger grinned, "I felt bad for tricking you guys last time, so I'll help you out. We'll be even from now on."
"That's great." Monk Yuanzhi chuckled and said, "Aren't you and those behind you... from the same unit?"
The ghost messenger's expression was strange. "No."
Monk Yuanzhi was about to ask another question when the ghost messenger's face turned cold. "Shut up and crouch down! The night patrol is ahead; you'll be in big trouble if you're discovered!"
Monk Yuanzhi quickly shut his mouth and lay down in the carriage with Zhou Fengchen, only half of his head showing.
The hedgehog car drove forward for two minutes when suddenly a giant cicada crawled out from the side. On the cicada sat a fat man wearing armor, with his eyes squinted and his mouth stretched all the way to the back of his ears.
It looks both ridiculous and scary.
The ghost messenger slowed down, adopting a humble attitude, and waited for him to pass first.
The cicada carried the big fat man on its back, taking a leisurely stroll like a tortoise. Zhou Fengchen was getting impatient and really wanted to say, "Why don't you walk faster? We're in a hurry to patrol the night like this!"
Just then, the fat man turned his head and said, "Hmm?"
The sound was like thunder, a buzzing noise.
The ghost messenger quickly said, "I've brought three living dead to Wangsheng City for roll call."
"Um!"
The fat man grunted again, and then the cicada under his buttocks shot out like a rocket and disappeared in the blink of an eye.
The ghost messenger rubbed his face, gave a "giddy-up" sound, and the giant hedgehog continued on its way.
Inside the carriage, Zhou Fengchen and Monk Yuanzhi exchanged a glance, both wiping away cold sweat. What the hell was this? It was terrifying.
The journey continued peacefully, and the ghost messengers didn't pursue them. When they reached a place with a bright white light, the ghost messengers stopped the hedgehog cart, turned around, and said, "Go! Don't get off again. This time, without me, you're all doomed!"
Monk Yuanzhi and Zhou Fengchen thought to themselves, "No one would willingly come down here. Weren't they just tricked by that damned old fox?" On the surface, they ran towards the white light with profuse thanks.
Before entering the white light, Zhou Fengchen asked, "Brother, what's your surname?"
"Mao Wenlong... Wenlong... Long..."
The three words echoed in his ears, and Zhou Fengchen suddenly sat up, looked around, and didn't know how to describe his feelings.
It was morning, and this was a bedroom. He was squatting on the bed, holding the unconscious Zhang Qing and Monk Yuanzhi in his arms. The blankets were still a little warm.
The bedroom door was ajar, and a family of five or six was having breakfast in the living room outside.
Zhou Fengchen glanced at the window; it was a security window, reinforced with steel bars, quite sturdy. He couldn't help but chuckle wryly, "Hehehe."
Monk Yuanzhi suddenly opened his eyes, looked around, and exclaimed, "Damn, were we dreaming? Where are we?"
That shout startled the family eating in the living room, who then rushed in.
Then... they looked at each other, completely dumbfounded!
"Well..." Zhou Fengchen rubbed his nose, unsure how to explain.
Monk Yuanzhi's eyes darted around. "Amitabha! This humble monk has a question for you: do you always have nightmares when you sleep on this bed?"
The woman paused for a moment, then nodded: "Yes, it's a bit cold at night."
The couple glanced out the window, then down under the bed, blinked, and pointed: "Get out! Right now!"
……
After leaving that house, Zhou Fengchen and Monk Yuanzhi were both extremely depressed.
"What do you mean by this?" Monk Yuanzhi asked.
Zhou Fengchen said worriedly, "Never mind what it is. I don't know where my sister is now. I have a feeling it's that old vixen's doing!"
"Then let's go back to the temple and see!" said Monk Yuanzhi.
The two men carried Zhang Qing and took a taxi straight to the City God Temple.
Early in the morning, there was no one in the temple. When they arrived at the side room, the old woman's body was still lying stiffly on the bed. However, without the evil spirits possessing her, the strong stench of the corpse filled the entire room.
Inside, the coffin lid lay overturned, and the coffin was completely empty.
Zhou Fengchen scratched his head and said, "That old vixen was startled after I hit her with a talisman; she probably won't dare come back!"
Monk Yuanzhi asked, "So what do we do next?"
Zhou Fengchen gave a wry smile: "Let's figure out how to dispose of the old lady's body first, otherwise we'll become murderers again!"
