Chapter 9: The whispers of passersby and Zhong Chengyu's shock
Chapter 9: The whispers of passersby and Zhong Chengyu's shock
Yes!
Jiang Ming silently recited in his heart.
There was no scene like in the game where the corpse disappears and drops items.
He had to suppress his nausea and clumsily cut off several pieces of still-warm flesh and a rat skin with a fruit knife, following the instructions on the panel. He then found a stone and knocked off the two longest fangs.
After doing all this, Jiang Ming stood up and looked at the boy.
"Aren't you going to treat your wound?"
"Oh!" The boy snapped out of his daze, scrambling to his feet. He didn't even dare to look at the rat carcass again, and ran frantically toward the school gate.
"Old Jiang!"
Just then, a familiar voice called out from behind.
Li Bin sped out of the school gate on a bright yellow electric scooter.
The wheels kicked up a trail of dust. He braked suddenly two meters away from Jiang Ming, and the car came to a stop, swerving sideways.
Holy crap!
Li Bin saw the scene before him clearly—bloodstains all over the ground, the disfigured corpse of a large rat, and Jiang Ming, holding a sharp blade and covered in blood.
He pushed up his glasses, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly. "I only went back to get my keys, and you're already open?"
"Luckily." Jiang Ming wiped the blood-stained fruit knife on the grass and put it back at his waist. "I almost died here."
Li Bin jumped out of the car, squatted down beside the mangled, large rat carcass, studied it for a long time, then looked up at Jiang Ming: "You killed it yourself? A solo kill?"
"I used a little trick."
Jiang Ming took out a dark purple [Paralysis Stone] from his pocket. "I just discovered this thing during my exploration."
Li Bin stared thoughtfully at the sphere, about the size of a baby's fist, with dark purple veins on its surface: "You mean, you used this thing to deal with this big rat?"
"It's not that simple, we need to add a little something extra."
Jiang Ming didn't explain the details of the synthesis panel in detail; that was his trump card.
"In short, although this place is dangerous, it is indeed full of resources."
"I can tell."
Li Bin stood up, dusted off his hands, pointed to the front basket of the electric scooter, and said, "Get on, let's take this rat meat back and find something to store it in."
"Um."
Jiang Ming put away the fruit knife, grabbed the few pieces of still-bleeding meat, and climbed onto the back seat of the electric scooter.
Li Bin twisted the accelerator to the floor, and the wheels rolled over the deformed sliding gate rails at the school gate, making it feel like the car was about to fall apart.
The two men, covered in blood and riding an electric scooter that made noise everywhere except for the horn, rushed into the main road of the campus.
The students who had been gathered on the roadside, watching and hesitating to go out, seemed to have been put on pause.
Hundreds of eyes were fixed on them, especially on the pieces of flesh in Jiang Ming's hand that were still dripping blood.
"Holy crap... what's that?"
"Blood? They killed someone?"
"No! Look at that fur on that person's shoulder...that's animal fur!"
"Are they back from hunting?"
The murmurs were like a swarm of wasps disturbed, buzzing and trying to penetrate my ears.
Jiang Ming ignored the gossip of the passersby.
"Don't slow down, just drive straight to the dormitory building." Jiang Ming patted Li Bin on the back. "Don't give these guys a chance to surround us."
"Got it! Hold on tight!" Li Bin responded, dodging a few boys who were trying to get closer to watch the commotion, and turned the handlebars onto the small road leading to the dormitory area.
The wind brushed past my ears, carrying a slight chill.
Looking at his peers on both sides, who were still dressed smartly but were holding their phones and looking for a signal, Jiang Ming felt an absurd sense of alienation.
Just a few hours earlier, he, like these people, was worrying about failing his exams or what to eat for dinner.
Now, holding the dead rat meat in his hand, all he could think about was how to process the meat into something edible.
This damn adaptability.
The electric scooter braked suddenly and stopped in front of the men's dormitory.
Before the car had even come to a complete stop, Jiang Ming jumped out.
My muscles, which had been tense for a long time, were a little sore, and my knees buckled when I landed.
"Go quickly and come back quickly."
Li Bin straddled the bright yellow electric scooter, one foot on the ground and the other hand gripping the scratched handlebars.
"Wait here for me, don't let anyone take the car away."
Jiang Ming gave a word of advice, then, carrying the rat meat that was still oozing blood, turned and rushed into the dormitory building.
The motion-sensor lights in the hallway have been out of order for a long time.
In the dim light, only the sound of his hurried footsteps echoed.
This meat is quite heavy, weighing at least twenty pounds.
Sticky blood dripped from his palm onto the ground, carrying with it a nauseating rusty smell.
But he didn't bother to wipe it.
This is their survival score, and more importantly, their food rations for the future.
We just turned past the third-floor stairwell.
"Click".
The door to the dormitory next door, 302, opened.
Zhong Chengyu came out with two boys.
The three of them were holding all sorts of "weapons".
A mop handle, an iron frame that was taken from somewhere, and half a tabletop.
As the group was about to go downstairs, they bumped into Jiang Ming, who was covered in blood.
The air froze instantly.
Zhong Chengyu subconsciously took a step back, holding the mop handle horizontally in front of his chest.
"Holy crap... Old Jiang?"
He used the light streaming in from the window at the end of the corridor to see the face of the person who had come in.
Immediately afterwards, his gaze was fixed on the pieces of flesh in Jiang Ming's hand that were still dripping blood.
"What...what is this?"
Chung Cheng-yu's throat went dry as he pointed at the bag.
The strong smell of blood was so strong it went straight into my nose and couldn't be hidden.
His two roommates standing behind him also craned their necks, their faces filled with a mixture of fear and greed.
"Meat."
Jiang Ming didn't stop, but squeezed past them sideways.
"Meat?!"
Zhong Chengyu's voice suddenly rose eight octaves.
He turned around abruptly, took two steps, and stood in front of Jiang Ming.
"Where did this meat come from? Aren't supermarkets only full of snacks? And this blood... is it even fresh?"
Jiang Ming stopped in his tracks.
Hiding it at this point is pointless and will only cause unnecessary suspicion and trouble.
"At the school gate."
He lifted the piece of meat in his hand, making the stench of blood more directly assault the senses of these sheltered children.
"Just now, a mutated giant rat, about the size of a dog, tried to eat me, but I killed it."
"Kill...killed?"
The bespectacled boy next to Zhong Chengyu gasped, his hands trembling as he held the metal frame.
"It's in that patch of grass near the school gate."
Jiang Ming didn't want to waste any more words, so he bypassed Zhong Chengyu and continued walking towards dormitory 305.
"If you want to eat meat, go hunt it yourself; there's plenty outside."
After leaving those words behind, he walked quickly to his dormitory without looking back.
The three people behind him looked at each other in bewilderment.
They originally planned to try their luck on campus before it got completely dark, hoping to find something they could snag.
Who would have thought that Jiang Ming, who usually seems unassuming, had already left the campus and started hunting wild animals outside?
