Chapter 456 Black Zetsu Breaks Defense Twice
Chapter 456 Black Zetsu Breaks Defense Twice
Black Zetsu's body slowly rose from beneath the sea surface, like a black seaweed growing from the deep sea.
His pupil-less eyes gazed into the distance, fixed on the slowly moving island, and remained there for a long time.
"Idiot!" His voice pierced Onoki's ears like a knife.
"What did you say?" Onoki turned around, his face already dark.
"I called you an idiot." Black Zetsu's voice remained calm, but anyone could hear the suppressed rage beneath. "I told you to capture the Two-Tails, but you insisted on getting angry with the Fourth Raikage. I told you to finish this quickly, but you insisted on beating him up to vent your anger. And now?"
He pointed to the increasingly smaller black dot in the distance on the sea.
"The Two-Tails is gone, Hozuki Mangetsu is dead, and you come back to see me empty-handed like this?"
Onoki's face turned pale and then purple, his lips trembled, but in the end he managed to suppress all the flowers.
How could Man Yue, who was usually so clever, die so mysteriously? Who did it?
He knew he couldn't escape the blame. If he hadn't insisted on teaching the Fourth Raikage a lesson, if he had arrived a quarter of an hour earlier, things might not have turned out this way.
Onoki gritted his teeth and swallowed back all the words that were about to come out.
"Let's go, let's go back." Black Zetsu coldly uttered these words before his body sank back beneath the surface of the sea.
After a moment of silence, Onoki finally followed.
-
The Land of Rain, the Hidden Village of Rain.
It was always raining from the sky, and the leaden-gray clouds, like a giant rag, shrouded the village in dampness and cold.
Onoki and Black Zetsu landed on the platform of the tower, rainwater streaming down their robes and forming streams on the ground.
Just then, a dark figure staggered out from the rain—it was Uchiha Itachi.
His robes were tattered, and a streak of blood clung to the corner of his mouth. His gait was also off; his left leg appeared to have been injured in battle, and each step seemed labored.
Black Zetsu's gaze fell on Uchiha Itachi, a sense of foreboding rising within him. "Where's the Three-Tails?"
Uchiha Itachi stopped in his tracks, paused for a moment, and then said, "He's dead."
"What about the Pipa Juzo?"
"...He died too."
Itachi Uchiha's voice was calm as he raised his hand and threw the two blades in front of everyone.
Black Zetsu stood motionless, raindrops pattering against his black body and sliding down his surface, obscuring his expression. But Onoki noticed that Black Zetsu's body was trembling slightly.
"Okay, very good... Is there any worse news? Why don't we tell you all at once?"
Itachi Uchiha remained silent.
Black Zetsu waited for a long time, but heard no more sound. He slowly turned around, walked to the edge of the tower, and stood with his back to the two of them, as if gazing into the endless darkness in the rain.
Then, Ohnoki heard it.
It was a roar deliberately suppressed to the extreme, a low, beast-like howl squeezed out from the depths of his throat, "Aburame Shisei...you will pay the price."
His face was contorted, his defenses were breached zero times or countless times, and he paced back and forth on the ground, his movements like tearing out one's heart and liver.
"Don't rush, don't rush..." he muttered to himself, as if trying to convince himself. "I need to stay calm, I need to settle down. I must find a way to break this deadlock... Unite everyone and retrieve all the Tailed Beasts. There must be a way..."
His voice grew softer and softer until it disappeared into the sound of the rain. Onoki watched his retreating figure, a chill creeping over him. Had this guy gotten himself sick from anger?
Meanwhile, in another room inside the tower, Changxin sat on the windowsill, one leg dangling outside, letting the rain pelt his body.
His expression appeared calm and collected, but the fingers gripping the window frame were tightening slightly, because he was looking at the letter sent by his scout.
"Yakushi Nonou... adopted son... being pursued by Konoha's Anbu... towards the Land of Vegetables..." Nagatoshi's eyes suddenly lit up.
"Senior sister... I've finally heard from you again." The corners of his mouth slowly turned up, revealing a smile. But that smile didn't reach his eyes; deep in his eyes was an almost obsessive fervor.
"This time, I will definitely rescue you."
His fingers tightened, and fine cracks appeared on the wooden window frame. "But... how can you have an adopted son? Your love and attention can only be for me."
Just then, he heard footsteps behind him. Changxin didn't turn around; he could already sense the chakra, which was damp and smelled fishy, as if it had just been pulled out of the water.
Kisame Hoshigaki, clutching his Samehada sword, swaggered into the room with a half-smile on his shark-like face and plopped down in a chair.
"I could smell something off about your scent from a mile away." Kisame grinned. "What good news is this?"
Changxin ignored him, and Kisame didn't care either. He took out a small wine flask from his waist and took a swig.
He didn't have this hobby before, but he was a very traditional and disciplined ninja. However, after joining the Akatsuki organization, the powerless grinding made him more and more lax.
Kisame knew very well that Black Zetsu had sent him to team up with Nagatoshi as eyes and ears, to keep an eye on Nagatoshi's every move.
It doesn't matter, Kisame Hoshigaki doesn't care about anyone anyway.
"I need to go out for a bit." Changxin jumped down from the windowsill, patting the water droplets off his clothes. "Save my senior sister."
Kisame raised an eyebrow. "You have a senior sister? Oh, I remember now, the walking witch."
"You know?"
"Lord Black Zetsu mentioned it briefly." Kisame stood up, hoisted Samehada onto his shoulder, and said, "Let's go, I'll go with you."
Changxin glanced at him but did not refuse. He had no room to refuse, and the two disappeared into the rain, one after the other.
Just as they stepped out, Black Zetsu reappeared in their room and gave them orders, "Listen up, both of you. I have something important to tell you. Aburame Shisei's power is too rampant; we must expose their conspiracy..."
But when he looked up, he found the room empty; there was no one in sight. It turned out he had been talking to thin air the whole time.
He seemed so angry that he couldn't even tell if anyone was around.
"Where have those two run off to again!" he roared again. "None of you can understand human language. If you guys weren't still somewhat useful, I would have already..."
"And then there's Nagato Uzumaki, always posing like a god. Times have changed, your little bit of divine power is utterly useless."
Hei Zi grumbled and cursed, but there were some things he had to do, some things he had to accomplish, because he wanted to resurrect his mother.
"Mom, this is so hard!"
