She smashed things while cursing wildly, kicking the corpse around as if venting her endless rage.
Blood and bits of flesh splattered as she moved.
The insane and bloody scene sent chills down everyone's spine.
She used the most direct and brutal method to declare the fate of anyone who dared to challenge Su Hui's authority.
The only sounds in the courtyard were her frantic pounding, her cursing, and Mei's desperate cries.
There was also a deathly silence.
The courtyard was filled with a strong stench of blood, which mixed with the cold air to create a nauseating atmosphere.
Kenny's headless body was a bloody mess under Harley's baseball bat, dark red blood mixed with grayish-white brain matter, spreading on the dirty snow and emitting a strong stench.
Blood even splattered onto Harley's stern, pretty face.
Mei's scream turned into a desperate sob, and she collapsed to the ground, trembling all over.
The other survivors were even paler than usual, barely daring to breathe, even their breathing was extremely cautious.
Ryan held his wife tightly, his brows furrowed, watching the bloody and brutal scene before him, his heart filled with shock and complex emotions.
Cole and his armed men watched expressionlessly, their eyes scrutinizing, but they made no move to stop them.
"Okay, Harley."
Su Hui's calm voice broke the suffocating atmosphere.
Harley's movements suddenly stopped, and the baseball bat hung in mid-air.
She turned to look at Su Hui, the indifference on her face fading, replaced by a sweet, obedient smile tinged with a hint of grievance, as if the madwoman who had just brutally whipped the corpse was not her.
"Honey~"
She jogged back to Su Hui's side, snuggled close to him, casually tossed the blood-stained baseball bat on the ground, and pouted, looking slightly aggrieved.
"Honey, you're not angry, are you? That trash dared to insult you and look at us with those disgusting eyes."
She tilted her head back, her azure eyes gleaming with worry and trepidation, afraid that Su Hui would be angry about it.
Looking at Harley like this, how could Su Hui possibly be angry!
Reaching out, Su Hui affectionately pinched her cheek, which was stained with a few drops of blood, and said helplessly:
"Too impulsive."
"Just kill him. Look at you, you're covered in blood and filth."
His tone carried a hint of reproach, but it sounded more like he was scolding a mischievous kitten that had spilled a teacup, completely ignoring the gruesome corpse on the ground and the horrified stares around him.
"Be more careful next time."
"Yeah! Honey's the best!"
Harry responded sweetly, rubbing her cheek against Su Hui's palm.
This tender scene, seemingly oblivious to the presence of others, stands in stark contrast to the bloodshed on the ground.
Mei, in particular, felt a chill run from her toes to the top of her head as she looked at Su Hui's matter-of-fact attitude and at Harley's obedient and cuddly appearance.
Fear completely overwhelmed her reason.
Splattered with Kenny's warm blood and bits of flesh, she completely broke down.
She scrambled toward Cole, grabbing the leg of his combat trousers as if it were her last lifeline.
"Commander Cole! Help! Help me!"
May's voice was shrill and distorted, and her face was covered in Kenny's blood and her own tears and snot, making her look extremely disheveled.
"They are devils! They are murderers!"
"Kenny just wanted to argue a bit, and that crazy woman killed him! And...and treated him like that!"
She pointed at Harley, her eyes filled with resentment and fear.
"This man is even more terrifying! That crazy woman killed Kenny! And this man even condoned her actions! They're not human!"
She cried hysterically, speaking incoherently, trying to pin all the blame on Su Hui, drag Cole down with her, and avenge her and protect herself.
"Please, sir! Do justice for us! Kill them! Avenge Kenny! Protect me! Please!"
She wept uncontrollably, kowtowing repeatedly, her posture utterly humble.
All the survivors' eyes were on Cole, including Ryan's.
Ryan opened his mouth but then stopped speaking.
He watched Cole nervously, hoping that this commander, who seemed to represent "order," could stop the chaos.
however,
Cole's reaction surprised everyone.
He looked down at the woman at his feet, who was weeping and acting like a madwoman, his eyes cold and devoid of any emotion.
He didn't help her up, nor did he comfort her. Mei, are you thinking of me? Mei, are you free? Lin, are you here...?
Under May's gaze, which was a mixture of astonishment and anticipation, Cole suddenly raised the standard-issue pistol in his hand.
The dark muzzle of the gun was pointed at Mei's face, which was stained with blood and filled with fear.
Mei's cries and pleas came to an abrupt end.
Her eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at the black gun barrel so close to her, before she could say anything.
boom!
Another gunshot.
Bihari's revolver is crisp, yet equally deadly.
The bullet struck Mei precisely between the eyebrows.
The shock and confusion on her face were frozen in time. Her body went limp and fell backward, crashing heavily to the ground. Blood gushed from the hole in her forehead, quickly forming a small puddle beneath her.
silence.
An even more utter silence than before.
If Harley's killings were madness and violence, then Cole's execution was full of calm, efficiency, and unquestionable authority.
He acted as if he had casually crushed an annoying bug.
Cole expressionlessly put away his pistol and holstered it.
He looked around, his gaze sweeping over the survivors who were completely terrified, his voice cold and authoritative.
"In the face of the apocalypse, order is the foundation of everything."
"This kind of scum who spreads rumors, maliciously frames others, tries to provoke internal conflicts, and undermines the unity among survivors has no value in living."
He glanced at Mei's corpse on the ground, his tone full of disdain.
"This kind of person is unable to recognize reality. Even if she doesn't die today or is not killed by the monster, she will die sooner or later from her own stupidity and malice."
He smiled slightly, revealing a set of neat white teeth, but the smile didn't reach his eyes.
"The Universal Group is committed to restoring order and protecting all survivors who abide by the rules. But we will never tolerate any parasites that undermine unity and create chaos."
With these words, he casually attributed Mei's death to her own "evil," instantly seizing the moral high ground and demonstrating in the most direct way the Huanyu Group's iron-fisted approach to maintaining "order."
Those men who had been eager to join Kenny were now as pale as paper, their legs trembling so badly they almost collapsed to the ground. Their eyes were filled with awe and fear as they looked at Cole and Su Hui.
They were incredibly relieved that they hadn't actually attacked.
Otherwise, there would be more than just these two lying on the ground now!
Upon seeing the two corpses on the ground, Ryan's pupils contracted sharply, and he instinctively pulled his pregnant wife, Elaine, even closer to protect her.
He gripped the pistol at his waist, a chill running down his spine as he looked at the formulaic smile on Cole's face.
The commander of the Universal Group was far more ruthless than he had imagined.
After dealing with the "garbage," Cole turned his attention back to Su Hui.
The coldness on his face vanished instantly, replaced by a perfectly calculated, just-right smile.
It was as if the cold-blooded executioner from before was just an illusion.
"Mr. Su Hui, is that right?"
Cole's voice was gentle as he extended his hand to Su Hui, adopting a very humble posture.
"Your strength, and your companion's decisiveness, are both impressive."
Su Hui calmly looked at his outstretched hand, but did not shake it.
Cole's hand paused in mid-air for a moment, then he casually withdrew it, his smile unchanged.
“In the apocalypse, going it alone is always fraught with risk.”
Cole's voice was full of sincerity.
"On behalf of the Universal Group, I formally invite you to join us."
"Our Universal Group, together with several other corporate allies, is preparing to establish a large security zone in the Torrance area south of Los Angeles."
"We have well-developed fortifications, ample weapons and ammunition, supplies, and a relatively safe living environment. We hope to resume production and rebuild civilization in the apocalypse."
He looked at Su Hui with anticipation in his eyes.
“A warrior as strong as Mr. Su Hui is exactly the kind of talent we desperately need. I hope to invite you and your companions to join Huanyu and work together for the future of humanity. This is far more meaningful and safer than wandering alone.”
His words were full of positive energy, sounded grand and very tempting.
Especially after witnessing the cruelty of the outside world and the bloody conflict that just occurred, a safe zone protected by a powerful organization is fatally attractive to any survivor.
But he clearly came to the wrong person.
Su Hui listened quietly, his expression unchanged.
"I'm sorry, Commander Cole."
Su Hui spoke calmly, directly rejecting Cole's invitation: "I'm used to freedom."
His attitude was clearly expressed in those six simple words.
Cole's smile faltered slightly, but he quickly recovered.
Su Hui looked at him and continued:
"We were just passing through to collect some supplies. Now that we've finished our business, we're ready to leave."
His gaze met Cole's calmly, with a hint of scrutiny.
"So, Commander Cole, is there anything else?"
Cole and Su Hui looked at each other for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed, appearing very magnanimous.
"of course not."
"The Universal Group respects the choices of every strong individual. Since you do not wish to join us for the time being, we will not force you."
He turned to the side and gestured for him to enter.
The armed personnel who had been forming a de facto blockade immediately moved aside to both sides, making room for them.
"Of course, if Mr. Su Hui changes his mind, he can come to us at any time."
“We also have liaisons stationed at the official Staples Center shelter. Just give me my name, Cole Williams, and they will introduce you. I hope to have the opportunity to see Mr. Su Hui again.”
Su Hui nodded noncommittally: "If I have the chance, I'll go and take a look."
finished,
He stopped looking at Cole and turned to leave with Harley and the other two girls.
He paused briefly as he passed Ryan.
Ryan's face was filled with guilt and unease.
"Mr. Su Hui, I'm so sorry, Kenny's matter... is my responsibility. I didn't manage them well..."
He felt that if he had been tougher, perhaps the subsequent conflict and death could have been avoided.
"Don't worry about it, Officer Ryan."
