Chapter 56 World Rift: I'm Fine
Chapter 56 World Rift: I'm Fine
"Okay, do you have any other questions?" Tony asked.
"Well..." Jaeger said, "I've finished asking the more serious questions."
"?" Tony raised an eyebrow. "Do you have a less serious question?"
"That's right." Jaeger said seriously, "I'm thinking about what to do about the ceiling that the energy-devouring worms damaged... and the noise we made."
"Ahem." Clark coughed upon hearing this. "Well, there's no need to worry about that—because I was just thinking about it myself, so I specifically checked the situation..."
"?" Jaeger asked in surprise, glancing at Clark and then at the blue sky and white clouds below. He couldn't see anything on the cruise ship, not even a tiny dot of it. "How did you see it?"
"It wasn't that I saw it; to be precise, I heard it using my super hearing," Clark explained. "I guess it was lucky, since we were having a party on deck under Bruce Wayne's name before, right?"
"Although Bruce Wayne didn't actually show up, those people still started their own party. The party was so loud that it attracted everyone on the ship, so no one noticed what was going on in the corner of the top deck."
Jaeger: "..."
This is the legendary "since we're already here, and Bruce Wayne isn't here, shall we throw ourselves an awesome party?"
But then again... super hearing?
Jaeger was reminded of some memories by the familiar phrase, and involuntarily recalled the scene of Clark using Ice Breathing just now, and his expression became strange for a moment.
Clark, being above, didn't notice Jaeger's unusual expression and was still explaining how to deal with the damaged ceiling: "Besides, I also have heat vision. As long as the energy-devouring bugs didn't completely destroy the ceiling, I can probably weld it back together."
"No, not at all." Tony thought for a moment. "I remember the ceiling was swept around by the energy-devouring bug's beam cannon, and a whole piece of metal fell down."
"That's great, it proves it can still be repaired." Clark immediately breathed a sigh of relief—after all, if he had to pay for it, he probably wouldn't be able to repay the debt even if he went back to Kansas and grew corn for 80 years.
However, the naive young man from the small town forgot that he could also choose to continue pretending to be Bruce Wayne and let others charge the money to Wayne... although that would be rather immoral.
While Clark and Tony discussed the ceiling repair, Jaeger was brainstorming.
Flight, freezing breath, super hearing, heat vision... Even if it's a coincidence, it can't be this coincidental, right?
Clark Kent's abilities are remarkably similar to those of Superman in Metropolis.
But is there really another person on Earth who possesses these special abilities that come from outer space?
The so-called elimination of all impossibilities often leaves behind the truth—Could Clark Kent be the Superman five years later?
Jaeger perked up and examined Clark's face more closely.
There's no need to elaborate on his black hair and blue eyes, but as for his appearance... Jaeger isn't so sure.
After all, humans are generally a bit face-blind when it comes to the faces of people who are not from their own country. So even though Jaeger can say that Superman and Clark Kent look alike, it may just be a commonality among the handsome appearances of some foreigners.
After all, it's common knowledge that handsome people are often all the same in terms of handsomeness, while ugly people are often ugly in all sorts of ways...
As for Superman's signature slicked-back hair and small curls, Clark Kent had none of that; he just had ordinary, messy black curly hair.
But I can fix that with hairspray! Maybe Superman gives himself a super-fast, business-ready hairstyle before he goes out to rescue people, it's not impossible!
Jaeger was conflicted, but he couldn't ask Clark.
After all, the codename Superman wouldn't appear for another five years, and even if Clark was really Superman, there was no way to verify it at that time.
Forget it, no rush. We can investigate Clark Kent after we get back to the normal timeline.
Unlike [Jaeg Winchester], it's much easier to find out who [Landon Parrels] is, especially with the help of the poison mist.

Half an hour later.
The Ocean Prayer, on the balcony of Jaeger's room.
"Regardless of the process, we really have to thank you for the energy-devouring worms."
Tony, who had just switched to a miniature reactor built by Jaeger to prevent a crash halfway through the flight back, was about to say goodbye to his two temporary teammates from another world: "It's a pity we're not in the same world, otherwise I would definitely throw you two a party!"
"No thanks." The moment Clark heard about the party, he remembered knocking on doors to wake people up and get them to party. He immediately snapped to attention and waved his hand. "I think there are already enough parties on this cruise ship."
"Not nearly as good, definitely not as good as mine." Tony said in a tone that said, "You have no idea what a great thing you've missed out on." "But it's a pity that we're not in the same world, so I don't have anything to thank you for."
Clark's tone became serious: "This has nothing to do with the reward. The energy-devouring worms will cause trouble once they start multiplying, and we'll have to deal with it eventually."
But at that moment, Jaeger suddenly spoke up: "No, you've already paid, Tony."
"?" Tony and Clark both looked at Jaeger upon hearing this.
Jaeger blinked, a hint of mockery in his eyes.
He pointed to the reactor on Tony's chest and said, "A miniature arc reactor. This is technology that our world doesn't currently possess. And by replicating my abilities, it's essentially a form of open-source technology—"
"Isn't this considered payment, Iron Man?"
"...I forgot about that." Tony clicked his tongue. "I didn't expect you to pull a fast one on me here—oh well, we're not in the same world, so there's no point in talking about patents."
This is a tacit endorsement that Jaeger can use it.
"Thank you," Jaeger said with a smile. "I'll make good use of it."
"Just don't let my precious reactor down. You have no idea what this technology really represents," Tony said.
"So what does that mean?" Clark couldn't help but ask.
"That certainly represents the pinnacle of my genius in industrial technology," Tony replied.
Clark: "..."
"Alright, let's not waste any more time." His mask fell away, his eyes gleaming, Tony held up a finger to his forehead, then flicked it casually away as a farewell. "I'm leaving. See you again!"
With that, all the thrusters on his suit simultaneously spewed flames, and Iron Man instantly soared into the air, transforming into a golden-red meteor that flew towards the distant horizon.
……
……
……
A few minutes later, the world rift appeared in the air.
"Luckily, it hasn't collapsed yet." After a quick check of the crack in front of him, Tony turned the thrusters up to maximum power, preparing to rush through in one go. "But I wonder if the crack will still be there when those two guys come to check..."
His words were drowned out by the sound of the thrusters, and he quickly disappeared into the rift.
But right after he left, the world rift that hadn't completely collapsed suddenly accelerated its collapse as if it had been put on fast forward, and soon disappeared without a trace.
Only a wisp of almost invisible grayish-white mist flashed by at the edge of the crevice.
