Chapter 220 Meeting Mr. A
Chapter 220 Meeting Mr. A
Chapter 220 Meeting Mr. A
In a small hotel not far from the headquarters of MI9 in the northern part of Backlund.
After the Tarot session ended, Hugh's consciousness returned to his ethereal body, he opened his eyes, and suddenly stood up.
She glanced at her pocket watch; it wasn't too late yet.
So Hugh sat down in the chair and reflected on the conversation he had just had at the tarot meeting.
Raphael's deity seems rather strange; even the learned "Hermit" lady and the "World" gentleman, who knows a great deal of advanced information, are not quite sure what's going on.
After thinking about his thoughts for a while, Hugh returned to "MI9" to clock out. That evening, he talked to Fors about Raphael. The two of them were both a little saddened, marveling that Raphael actually controlled a level 1 sealed artifact!
They couldn't even imagine what it would be like for a Sequence 6 to wield such a high level of seal.
That evening, Hugh hired a horse-drawn carriage to deliver a letter to Raphael, informing him that he would be visiting him the next day with the deputy director.
Although neither of them had an extraordinary messenger, they exchanged methods of communication after their previous collaboration ended.
Letters to Raphael were sent to the "Mechanic Company," where staff were available 24 hours a day and would immediately forward them to Raphael.
If Raphael wanted to contact Hugh, he would simply send the letter to their rented apartment.
Hugh sent the letter because she felt that regardless of Raphael's beliefs, he was a fairly trustworthy friend. Therefore, she wanted to maintain the relationship; otherwise, if he left tomorrow without Raphael's preparation, it would easily reveal that they knew each other.
The next morning, Hugh arrived at MI9 to clock in for work. After changing into her MI9 uniform, she met up with Deputy Director De Winter and they took a carriage to Mr. A's villa.
On the carriage, Hugh suddenly found the whole thing rather ridiculous. At a formal meeting of MI9, the Aurora Society was described as a huge threat to public security, and their presence should be eliminated immediately if discovered.
In reality, MI9 already knew where the Aurora Society's envoy lived and even planned to visit him.
Upon arriving at Raphael's villa, we met Raphael without any trouble.
Hugh noticed that he looked somewhat weak, his young and handsome face was a little pale, and his wicked smile seemed forced.
De Winter smiled gently and said, "We heard about your feat the night before last."
"You flatter me, Director." Raphael smiled helplessly. "It was nothing special. I thought it was just a normal business meeting, but I almost died there."
"As you can see, if it weren't for my strong regenerative abilities, I wouldn't be able to sit here and talk to you right now."
Hugh, standing to the side, was slightly taken aback. When had Raphael become so polite? Or was he truly seriously injured and forced to show weakness?
Show weakness?
Hugh continued to observe and saw that Raphael's smile was very sincere.
Knowing Raphael as she did, she knew that the more genuine the smile, the more cautious she should be.
De Winter's smile faded after hearing Raphael's words: "You probably don't know who the major shareholder of the 'Backlund Grand Hotel' is."
"I really don't know."
"He can make the aurora borealis disappear in Backlund."
Even Hugh, let alone Raphael, was somewhat skeptical.
Raphael looked surprised and said, "I knew it! Why would the Ironblood Cross entertain me in such a high-class place? They really didn't have good intentions!"
"If anything goes wrong, they can easily pin all the blame on me."
Then he added with concern, "I can compensate the other party for their economic losses."
Hugh is now certain that Raphael is deliberately feigning weakness!
He has never taken the powerful and wealthy seriously.
Derwent smiled gently again: "The other party has generously indicated that they will not seek compensation from you."
"But I must tell you firmly that the impact of this incident is very serious. MI9 only managed to extricate you from this situation after extensive negotiations."
"Thank you, Director," Raphael said sincerely.
He then approached de Winter: "We've captured three members of the Iron Cross. We can hand them over to the Chief, so he'll have something to report."
Derwent's brow unfurrowed; this was an unexpected delight.
Hugh, standing to the side, remarked that Raphael had a very high emotional intelligence.
For someone in Derwent's position, money and wealth are practically no longer enough to sway him.
Raphael wasn't giving them memberships in three secret organizations, but rather credit for handling the aftermath of the incident.
Aurora has a partnership with MI9, and that partnership will continue, so it's impossible for them to arrest Raphael, at least not now.
Then this case lacks a proper explanation, which is equivalent to having an unsolved case concerning the royal family.
This is not good news for either MI9 or the royal family member who didn't want to get involved. The former is suspected of dereliction of duty, while the latter has lost face.
By handing over several Extraordinary members of the Ironblood Cross, MI9 had essentially given itself a respectable explanation. While the matter wasn't perfect, it was acceptable.
Hugh never expected that Raphael, a wild extraordinary being, would actually know the ins and outs of this.
The conversation then ended in a pleasant atmosphere.
On the return journey in the carriage, De Winter said to Hugh, "This messenger from the Aurora Society is relatively easy to talk to, unlike those other wooden types from before."
Xiuxin said: You must not be fooled by him.
Although Hugh didn't know why Raphael was behaving so kindly, she knew that Raphael was definitely not an "easy person to talk to".
Upon returning to MI9, Devonte sent Hugh to bring the three prisoners back.
Hugh and his men drove the prison van to Raphael's villa again, where they found Raphael in the study, who did not appear so dejected.
There were only the two of them there, and Hugh spoke casually: "I'll take those three back to MI9."
Raphael nodded and said, "Your demigod deputy director should know that you know me."
Sitting across the desk, Hugh felt his mind explode: "He knows—what? He's a demigod?"
This time it was Raphael's turn to be stunned: "You don't know?"
Hugh smiled helplessly: "Everyone says he's just a Sequence 5."
Raphael said with absolute certainty, "That's a Sequence 4."
Seeing Raphael's certain expression, Hugh chose to believe him, and then asked, "Why do you say he knows I know you?"
"That's obvious!" Raphael said. "Such a deterrent action is best carried out with one's most trusted subordinates."
"You've only been working here for a few days. Even if you've slept with him, he can't possibly trust you."
"He brought you here as a warning: you'd better watch out, I know a lot about you that no one else knows!"
Hugh seemed to understand something: "So you were being so kind just now because—"
"What else could it be?" Raphael smiled helplessly. "I can't beat him right now, and you're still in his hands, so of course I can't afford to break off relations."
Hugh, of course, noticed that Raphael said, "I can't beat him now."
