Chapter 20 Speculation
Chapter 20 Speculation
Was Li Yunxiang affected by hallucinations?
Wei Hongbo frowned and pondered for a moment, then shook his head: "That's just your guess. She's already dead, there's no way to prove it."
"Wait, I'm not finished yet." Wei Hongsi waved his hand and said slowly, "Hallucinations are a typical feature of schizophrenia, but Li Yunxiang's case is very special. I suspect that there may be a consciousness within her that does not belong to her, and her words and actions are influenced by that consciousness, rather than being pure hallucinations."
"Isn't this just multiple personality disorder?" Wei Hongbo asked, somewhat puzzled.
"No, this is different." Wei Hongsi continued to explain to his older brother, "Dissociative identity disorder, also known as multiple personality disorder, is usually related to severe childhood trauma and is accompanied by memory gaps when switching identities."
"However, Li Yunxiang's behavior in the meeting room was completely continuous, and there was no sign of memory loss before or after the changes. You can check her family background to see if she had any childhood trauma."
"We will definitely investigate this." Wei Hongbo frowned. "But after all you've said, are you trying to tell me you've discovered a new mental illness?"
"Of course not. I'm just laying the groundwork so you won't misunderstand what I'm about to say," Wei Hongsi said earnestly.
"Okay, then you can continue." Wei Hongbo said somewhat helplessly.
"You've seen Li Yunxiang's resume, and you remember her educational background, right?" Wei Hongsi asked.
"She's a college graduate with a degree in landscape architecture." This was a major point of suspicion, so Wei Hongbo remembered it clearly. "Given her educational background, isn't it highly unlikely that she could manipulate your company's so-called mirror system?"
"If it's just simple operations, then it's not difficult. But if it's model analysis or GG rendering, then it's extremely difficult."
Wei Hongsi gave an example: "It's like an app on a mobile phone. No matter how complex the functions are, it's not difficult to use as long as someone teaches you. But if you were asked to write an app yourself to achieve the specific functions you want, the difficulty is on a completely different level."
"This is the part I find hardest to understand." Not getting a definite answer, Wei Hongbo pressed on, "According to your CEO Meng, she suddenly had a breakthrough in March of this year, her learning ability improved by leaps and bounds. Does that mean she already possesses the corresponding abilities?"
"There are actually quite a few people who suddenly have an epiphany while learning, but the prerequisite is that there must be a certain level of accumulation; you can't create something out of nothing."
Wei Hongsi also refrained from drawing conclusions, stating objectively, "Specifically, for advanced applications of the cognitive mirror system, one must possess a considerable level of mathematical foundation and mathematical thinking, which cannot be achieved overnight."
"Hmm, that makes sense, very much so." Wei Hongbo stroked the stubble on his chin.
He couldn't help but recall the painful experience of being tormented by advanced mathematics and linear algebra when he was in college, which was just the foundation of what his younger brother called "mathematical foundation".
Then it occurred to me, could Li Yunxiang be a corporate spy in disguise? Once her parents arrive, a DNA test would be necessary.
Although this idea is a bit far-fetched, Wei Hongbo believes it's probably more reasonable than learning math in two or three months.
"Hey bro, you know about brain-computer interface technology, right?"
"I know a little. Aren't many technological advancements already commercialized?"
"If Li Yunxiang acquired knowledge and abilities she didn't originally possess, as well as a consciousness that wasn't originally hers, through a special brain-computer interface technology, could that explain everything?"
"Huh?" Wei Hongbo looked at his younger brother suspiciously, seeing his serious expression, which didn't seem like he was joking at all. "Does this kind of technology really exist?"
"Although there are no public reports, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it really happened." As Wei Hongsi said this, a sense of melancholy inexplicably welled up in his heart.
"My teacher once saw declassified files on this topic. He said that in the latter half of the last century, both superpowers secretly conducted research in this area and made substantial progress. However, due to the significant negative consequences and the difficulty in breaking through key technologies, those achievements could only exist in laboratories."
"After the confrontation between the two major powers ended, this type of experiment was strictly prohibited due to serious ethical and moral issues, and the related technology was never made public."
Wei Hongbo sensed the hidden meaning and quickly asked, "What are the side effects?"
"For example, it can lead to a loss of some self-awareness, or a serious deviation in the perception of the outside world, as well as abnormal electrical discharges in the brain, and so on." Wei Hongsi paused for a moment, "The symptoms of epilepsy are caused by abnormal electrical discharges in the brain."
Wei Hongbo's heart skipped a beat.
Epilepsy! Isn't that the official cause of Li Yunxiang's death?
Although these are all my brother's guesses, they undoubtedly connect all the abnormalities that happened to Li Yunxiang.
"Can you find any evidence?" he asked somewhat anxiously.
Wei Hongsi said, "Perhaps. Voiceprint analysis, which I just mentioned, is one approach; at least it can serve as indirect evidence, right?"
Wei Hongbo pondered for a moment and then slowly nodded.
If two consciousnesses exist within a person's body, even though there are no differences in physiological structure and the vocal organs are exactly the same, there will be differences in tone, intonation, breath, etc., under the dominance of different consciousnesses, and these differences can be distinguished.
"The other thing is the autopsy. If Li Yunxiang really did have information implanted through a brain-computer interface, there should be some traces left on her head or brain," Wei Hongsi said thoughtfully. "These traces could be very, very small. You can remind Director Xin to make sure it's done carefully."
Director Xin's real name is Xin Long. He is the chief forensic doctor of the branch office. Wei Hongsi knows him and they have even had a meal together before.
"Yes, I'll remind him." Wei Hongbo nodded. If those traces can be found, it might become an important breakthrough.
Wei Hongsi said, "Our company organizes physical examinations every year. You can ask our General Manager Wu later when the environmental maintenance worker's experience begins. This might explain why her learning ability suddenly improved significantly starting in March."
"Yes, the document he gave me includes the medical examination records. I'll check the specific dates later. Anything else?"
Wei Hongbo considered this information useful. Precise timing would be very helpful for the subsequent investigation.
"That's all I can think of. The rest is up to you. If there's anything you don't understand, feel free to ask me anytime," Wei Hongsi said, letting out a soft sigh.
The mission to investigate the true cause of Li Yunxiang's death was clearly stated as an assistance, and that was all he could do. The rest was up to his older brother and the others.
Wei Hongbo nodded silently, then after a moment realized what he meant, "You're working now, do you still talk to your colleagues like this at the company?"
"What's wrong?"
"Be careful next time, I'm afraid you'll get beaten up!"
