Chapter 7 Vampire, Your Secret Has Been Exposed!
Chapter 7 Vampire, Your Secret Has Been Exposed!
Saturday afternoon, October 30, 2010.
Russell once again walked out of the Ancient One's counseling room.
Five days have passed since my last visit to the Ancient One.
Five days ago, Russell agreed to the Ancient One's condition and took charge of handling this vampire incident.
After the incident is over, the Ancient One will step in to treat all the infected innocents.
Russell clearly remembered that when he agreed, a sly look flashed across the Ancient One's face.
That's the pleasure of getting something for free.
It's just like how Russell later assigned the investigation task to Gwen.
Back at the bookstore, seeing Gwen sitting listlessly at the counter, Russell casually asked:
"Gwen, how's the intelligence gathering going?"
"We've found the vampire's hideout." Gwen perked up as she got down to business.
"Many new faces appeared last night. Their numbers have been increasing over the past two days, and now it is estimated that there are tens of thousands of them."
These past few days, every nightfall, Gwen would go out to track down the vampires, not returning until sunrise.
Russell generously gave her a few days of paid leave.
He's only eighteen after all; if he sleeps a little longer, he still has a chance to grow taller.
“Russell, do you have any ideas?” Gwen asked. “If we can’t wipe them all out and they attack the citizens, we’ll be in big trouble.”
"As long as we are well prepared, it is not difficult to defeat them head-on by taking advantage of the vampires' weakness of fearing ultraviolet rays."
Russell frowned.
"But it would be difficult for the two of us to capture them all at once."
Once they split up and fled, there was no way to stop them.
"Just call the police, Gwen."
"Call the police? Can the NYPD handle this kind of problem?"
"Of course not. And there's a high probability that the NYPD has a vampire mole in there."
We need to leak the information to someone with sufficient influence and gain their trust.
Russell and Gwen exchanged a glance, and at the same time thought of one person.
“Come on, Gwen, let’s go find Tony Stark now.”
Stark Tower.
Russell and Gwen finally met Tony.
"Baby in Pajamas, you're finally here. Have you thought about your wish? It doesn't feel good to owe someone a favor."
Tony, dressed casually, held a wine glass and muttered to himself.
"And you, humorist, what are you doing here too?"
Tony feigned surprise upon seeing Russell.
"Wine, coffee, or tea? Don't worry, I have everything here."
Russell smiled at Tony's teasing but did not respond.
I'll settle the score with you when you get palladium poisoning.
Gwen briefly explained the purpose of the trip to Tony.
"Vampires? I always thought that was just an urban legend."
Jarvis, check it out.
"Okay, sir."
Tony sat on the sofa, took a sip of his drink, and said:
"This is very important, I need to verify it. Wait a moment, Jarvis will be there soon."
As Russell watched the data streams flashing across the screen, he was impressed but didn't quite understand.
Jarvis is indeed very fast.
A moment later, the data stream disappeared, replaced by several distant architectural images and some textual information.
"Sir, we found it in the S.H.I.E.L.D. database."
Jarvis's voice came from the speakers, providing narration in conjunction with the images and text on the screen.
The earliest appearance of the vampire race is no longer possible to determine.
During World War II, the vampire race clashed with the Germans. Due to their inherent racial flaws, they were massacred, with only one in ten surviving.
Several branches of the vampire clan fled from Europe to the Americas, seemingly having reached some kind of agreement with the authorities and received asylum.
The screen image changes, and a portrait is magnified.
"One of the vampire factions now resides in New York, and its leader is named Deacon Forrest."
He is preparing to implement a plan—the descent of the Blood God.
Using twelve pure-blooded vampires and the Daywalker Blade Eric Brooks, the Blood God is awakened through a mysterious ritual.
"Afterwards, the Blood God will embrace the other vampires again, eliminating their racial flaws," Russell added.
“Okay, it’s a cliché story. But doesn’t this sound like something from inside the vampire world?” Tony asked, puzzled.
“Mr. Stark, Frost’s ambitions go far beyond this,” Russell explained.
"Frost was a radical among vampires, who believed in vampire supremacy and that humans were merely food."
He was very dissatisfied with the current situation of vampires and intended to instigate a war between vampires and humans.
“Mr. Stark, there are tens of thousands of vampires gathered in New York now. If a riot breaks out, the consequences will be unimaginable.”
Gwen also joined in the persuasion.
"I've been investigating vampires for the past few days and have discovered that they are linked to several missing persons cases."
Tony frowned: "The situation is so serious, and the FBI and the NYPD haven't heard a thing? And what about S.H.I.E.L.D.? They've got some nice slogans to shout."
“Sir,” Jarvis said, “based on the intercepted information, S.H.I.E.L.D. and the military are already aware of this.”
"Then why haven't they taken any action yet?" Gwen asked, puzzled.
"It's Saturday, the military must be on holiday," Tony said casually.
"Jarvis, connect me to Nick Fury."
Tony sat on the sofa, waiting for the call to connect.
A massive stealth aircraft carrier hovers over the east coast of the United States.
"Damn it, what are the military thinking? They're saying they'll have the weekend off and postpone the operation."
Inside the aircraft carrier, a middle-aged white man dressed as a one-eyed pirate was swearing loudly.
"Have our agents keep a close eye on those vampires and secretly set up a blockade."
"Thank you all for working overtime to handle this situation. Your bonuses will be doubled next month."
Despite his annoyance with the U.S. military's unreliability, Nick Fury still ordered his men to prepare.
"Sir, Tony Stark requests a connection."
Why did Tony Stark want to see me? Has he finally decided to join the Avengers?
"catch."
"Nick Fury, do you know about the vampires?" Tony asked directly, getting straight to the point.
"I understand. But how did you know that?"
"It doesn't matter where I know it."
Tony questioned him with dissatisfaction.
"Now that you know, why don't you take action?"
Nick Fury was very unhappy when Tony questioned him.
If it weren't for the military interfering, he would have already wiped out that group of vampires by now.
But he calmed himself down and said expressionlessly, "SHIELD has already taken action."
"I didn't see any of your actions!"
"It's a confidential matter, I can't tell you."
The conversation between the two suddenly stalled.
“Mr. Stark, our goals are aligned.”
Coulson, standing nearby, spoke up to ease the tension, his tone sincere:
"Tony, please believe me, S.H.I.E.L.D. has done everything they can."
"But our strength is limited."
"I hope we can work together sincerely to protect the safety of New York this time."
"it is good."
After a moment of silence, Tony took Coulson's offer and agreed to cooperate.
"We are exchanging intelligence with each other, and we hope you will stop saying 'no comment'."
