Chapter 49 The Phoenix with Ruffled Feathers
Chapter 49 The Phoenix with Ruffled Feathers
Dumbledore's voice remained as gentle and calm as before, but for a moment, Sirius suddenly became tense, and he could even clearly hear his own rapid heartbeat.
It felt like I was being targeted by something with malicious intent.
But this feeling came out of nowhere and vanished in an instant, to the point that Xilun wondered if it was just his imagination.
But is it really just an illusion?
Siren looked up at Dumbledore, who was still the same as before. But after noticing Siren's gaze, he quietly reached out and pointed behind his robes towards the door.
Xilun looked in the direction he was pointing and was met with a pair of wary eyes.
Very well, now Xilun knows what's been targeting him.
It was Dumbledore's phoenix, and for some reason, this large red bird was standing on end, full of vigilance towards Siron.
"Principal, your phoenix doesn't seem very friendly to me, but I don't think I've ever seen it before."
He had never met Fox before. Logically, Phoenix shouldn't be so wary of a stranger.
Could it be that Garrick Ollivander forcibly plucked its feathers in order to make a wand?
possible!
"I must clarify, my relationship with my grandfather is so-so..." Celen looked at Phoenix Fox, "You can resolve any conflicts you have yourselves."
Silen's tone was sincere, but Fox's attitude remained unchanged.
"It has nothing to do with your grandfather," Dumbledore said. "The phoenix feather wands made by Garrick were all given to Fawkes on his own initiative."
"What else could it be?" Xilun scratched his head.
"To be honest, this is the first time I've ever seen Fawkes like this," Dumbledore said, glancing thoughtfully at the wand in front of him. "It's probably because of this."
"A magic wand?"
“Yes, a wand,” Dumbledore said. “Garrick makes wands from tail feathers, but you are different; you used an entire spine… Fawkes might be warning you not to mess with it.”
"The spine of a phoenix..." Xilun smacked his lips, but didn't say anything.
But this action made Dumbledore's eyes twitch.
What does this pursed-lip gesture mean?
Do you really have this idea?
To be fair, Dumbledore was right.
Xilun did have that unrealistic thought for a fleeting moment, but it was just a thought.
Because that's impossible. Phoenixes are different from giants. Phoenixes can infinitely apparite and teleport. As long as they don't want to show themselves, you'll never see a phoenix.
In addition, the phoenix will undergo nirvana and be reborn in flames.
Thinking of this, Siren immediately said seriously, "I have never had such a thought, Professor."
Dumbledore blinked with interest; if he hadn't noticed Sherren's initial reaction, he might have believed it.
But to be honest, he didn't really mind.
Many people have designs on the Phoenix, including potion makers, healers, dark wizards... and even alchemists like Nicolas Flamel. It's only natural to have such thoughts, but what one thinks and what one does are two different things.
Of course, Fox doesn't really like Nicole Lemaître either.
However, Dumbledore noticed that after Siren finished speaking, Fawkes's vigilance decreased significantly; at least, all of its feathers were lowered.
Phoenixes do not possess the ability to manipulate consciousness, but they can sense changes in a wizard's emotions. This means that Siron was not lying; he was sincere when he said those words.
"Is this really a wand?" Dumbledore brought the topic back.
"Of course, guaranteed in Ollivander's name."
"May I give it a try?" Dumbledore asked, somewhat eagerly.
He was curious whether this type of wand could actually use magic normally.
"I think... let's forget about it," Siron said. "This wand can only be used with one spell, and because it's so long, it backfires as soon as it's used."
"Backfire..." Dumbledore asked, "You mean if I use it to cast a spell, the spell will bounce back onto me?"
"...Hmm!" Xilun nodded.
An eerie silence fell over the headmaster's office as Dumbledore and Fawkes stared at Hillen.
Although neither of them spoke, the complex emotions in their eyes could fill a two-foot-long essay.
An Ollivander created a wand that can only attack the user.
Ah, that's really great! If we could just find a way to sell these wands to dark wizards and Death Eaters, the wizarding world could truly achieve peace... Well, Dumbledore can't keep this up anymore.
His mind raced, trying to figure out what he should say to appear knowledgeable while maintaining Celen's pride and his composure as the headmaster of Hogwarts.
But half a minute passed, and he still had no clue whatsoever. His rich academic background, which he was usually so proud of, seemed to be completely useless at this moment.
However, Siren didn't notice that Dumbledore's expression was changing rapidly. Seeing that he didn't speak, he said to himself, "I'm going to give it to Hagrid."
"You don't like Hagrid?" Dumbledore couldn't help but ask.
"No," Xilen shook his head. "We're very good friends, and he even gave me a very expensive Christmas present."
"Then why..." Dumbledore suddenly stopped talking, and after hesitating for a moment, he still didn't say "why repay kindness with enmity".
He nodded stiffly. "Perhaps only Hagrid can unleash the full potential of this wand."
He was referring to heaviness and hardness...
But it's not entirely Dumbledore's fault. The main reason is that Sirius didn't mention the most important "Iron Armor" characteristic, which made the wand "look" rather mediocre and useless.
At this point, Xilun guessed what was going on. He thought for a moment and said, "Actually, this wand also has its advantages."
I've crafted troll wand cores before, and based on my deduction, this wand should be well-suited for defensive magic like the Ironclad Charm.
Dumbledore's blue eyes flickered.
"No wonder, it's a very thoughtful gift," he said. "So it's confirmed to be the Ironclad Curse?"
"Not yet, I'm looking to see if there's anything more suitable," Celen said. "Besides, I'm not sure if Hagrid will like this gift; he seems to really cherish his old wand."
"A wand? Isn't that an umbrella?" Dumbledore suddenly said.
"Ah, yes, he really cherished that umbrella," Xilun added, correcting himself.
I almost forgot, Hagrid can't use a wand in his current identity... he still has to be the headmaster, how cautious.
"Oh, it's lunchtime." Dumbledore seemed to want to end the conversation, waving his hand back to Siron. "I only gave you the morning off; remember not to be late this afternoon."
"Okay, sure."
Siren left the headmaster's office with his wand, then glanced back down the corridor at the gargoyle that had returned to its seat.
When he first saw Dumbledore, Shiren was quite nervous.
He knew very well the trouble he had caused: making noise late at night, dismantling the dormitory, making dangerous wands... without a doubt, it was all a violation of school rules.
He initially thought Dumbledore had come to settle scores, but it seemed that wasn't the case.
Dumbledore didn't deduct any points or mention any punishment like solitary confinement; it seemed he was simply interested in the wand.
Is Dumbledore interested in wands?
Xilun didn't quite understand.
Oh well... it's good that there's no extra punishment, why think so much about it?
