Chapter 16 Ron's Desire
Chapter 16 Ron's Desire
Strange to say.
The glowing red "rope" didn't look very long, only about two or three inches, but it was able to connect the ten-inch-long cane end to end, and it wasn't even in a straight line.
Harry could see it clearly; the cross-section of the stick was engraved with various symbols, all of which were now emitting a faint red glow.
It's unclear how much time passed—perhaps a few minutes, or perhaps several hours—but the "rope" finally reached its end, and the two halves of the staff quickly closed together.
"That's it?" Harry's throat moved, his voice a little dry.
"Almost there." Without turning his head, Xiren stared intently at the wand in front of him, while waving his hand, "You guys had better step back a bit, I can't guarantee it won't explode this time."
As soon as he finished speaking, Harry and the others stumbled backward, Neville and Seamus almost bumping into each other... mainly because they had been standing for too long and their legs were a little numb.
At this point, they were already thinking of leaving, but before they could even reach the door, they heard a loud scraping sound.
The sound was creaking and groaning, like someone was sawing wood.
To the horror of the group, the magic wand floated into the air on its own and began to shake violently.
In a daze, Ron seemed to see the shadow of a strange creature.
It was only about twenty inches tall, with rough, grayish-brown skin like a tree stump. Its most striking feature was its head, which wore a scarlet hat that looked as if it had been soaked in blood.
The monster roared and swung a wooden stick with all its might.
"Snapped!"
Ron was jolted awake by a heavy pat on the shoulder.
"Run! It's Red Hat!" he shouted, reaching out to grab Harry.
"What are you talking about? What red hat?" Harry, who was confused, was suddenly pulled and almost fell over.
There was nothing he could do but join Seamus and Neville in holding onto the jumping Ron tightly.
With the combined efforts of the group, Ron gradually calmed down.
It was the same familiar dormitory, and I could still faintly hear laughter coming from the common room.
"Where's the red hat?" He rubbed his eyes and asked blankly.
"What red hat?" Harry released his arm. "There's nothing here. What's wrong with you?"
"But I clearly saw..." Ron rubbed his eyes again, "Could I have seen wrong?"
"You didn't see wrong," Xilun said, drawing everyone's attention.
He looked at Ron with interest, then at the wand on the table.
"It's amazing. It was supposed to explode, but it miraculously fused together, and you can see the original appearance of the staff core again."
He picked up the magic wand.
Holly, Red Cap Nerve, 10 inches
[Status: Perfect]
[Special Feature: Poison Curse Success Rate +5%; Explosive Curse Success Rate +10%]
It's like meeting Merlin.
Siron tightened his grip on the wand slightly.
Two traits, though the bonus is very low, and they don't even deserve to be called, but Merlin has two of them!
And they're all positive attributes!
Siren looked at Ron again, pondered for a moment, and then handed him the wand.
"Want to give it a try?"
"Huh?" Ron was taken aback. "Me?"
"Yes." Xilun nodded.
Ron didn't think too much about it, excitedly stood up, wiped his hands, and took the wand.
He dreamed of owning a new magic wand of his own.
Although the wand wasn't his either, at least it was new.
"Give it a try," Siron said.
"Try what?"
"A curse, the one you know best."
"Oh." Ron licked his lips and cleared his throat.
"Daisies, sweet cream, and sunshine."
"Turn this dilapidated table yellow."
hum...
A beam of light flashed before everyone's eyes, and the originally brown table turned bright yellow in the blink of an eye.
"Oh my God!" Ron covered his mouth, his face filled with disbelief. "This curse is actually real!"
Not only him, but Harry's eyes widened as well.
He had seen Ron use the spell on the train, but nothing happened then.
But why did it succeed now?
"Looks like you and this wand are a perfect match." Siren raised an eyebrow. "Would you consider buying it? I can give you a great discount."
"How much?" Ron's eyes lit up.
"Seven Galleons," Siron said. "That's the price for all new students."
The light in Ron's eyes quickly faded, and he reluctantly put his wand back on the table.
"I have no money, not even a 7 west Ke." He lowered his head, his face flushed.
"I'll pay for it!" Harry, brimming with extravagance, reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of glittering gold coins.
He's rich; he has a small mountain of gold in his vault. Buying a magic wand for a friend would be a piece of cake for him.
"No, no need!" Ron grabbed Harry's arm, his face turning even redder.
"Besides... I already have a wand, so I don't need to buy another one."
If he hadn't kept glancing at the table while saying that, Harry might have believed him.
Ron refused to take it, and he couldn't force him to buy it.
"It's alright, I can keep it for you." Xiren reached out and took the wand, and the two stopped their standoff.
"I'll put it in Ollivander's Wand Shop later, and you can buy it anytime."
"Okay!" Ron licked his lips again and nodded vigorously.
"You must save it for me," he reminded him again.
Seeing that Siren had agreed, Ron quickly reverted to his original form, apologized to Siren along with the other three, and then left the dormitory.
The party wasn't over yet; they wanted to get something to eat and have a butterbeer.
There was only one person left in the dormitory again.
Xilun took out the wand again, recalling the process of the wand body and the core fusing together.
He was all too familiar with that violent shaking frequency and the piercing noise; it was definitely the prelude to an explosion.
But in the instant before the explosion, all the anomalies disappeared.
Even more coincidentally, Ron can see the red hat on the core of the staff again.
This is a kind of resonance that only occurs when the wizard and the wand are highly compatible during the wand-making process; it is almost impossible to occur under normal circumstances.
After all, wandmakers usually choose a quiet place when making wands, where there are usually no other wizards around.
Xilun's situation is a special case.
He never expected to succeed; it was purely to appease his classmates and find an excuse for himself.
Let them see how dangerous their daily actions are; they can even explode. Not sharing a dorm room is for their own good.
Xilun had a good plan, but he never expected it to succeed this time.
He failed for a month, but this time he actually succeeded!
"Because of Ron?" Xiren muttered to himself, thinking of that phrase he'd heard so many times he was sick of it.
Choose a wizard for your wand...
