Chapter 604 Bastion Castle (6)
Chapter 604 Bastion Castle (6)
After crossing the drawbridge and entering the outskirts of Bastinburg, the first area that greeted Han Zu was a bit odd. It resembled a cemetery, with several neatly arranged rows of coffins. There weren't many, but judging by the lack of wear and tear on the coffins and their craftsmanship, the remains within them were likely those of the wealthy or noble. Considering the location, they were most likely family members of Bastinburg's owner, though whether they were members of the Ferdinand family was unclear.
Compared with those relatively well-preserved sarcophagi, the tombstones standing around the sarcophagi were not so lucky. Time had blurred the inscriptions on them and even directly peeled off a large number of the stone tablet fragments, making it impossible for Han Zu to identify the owners of these sarcophagi.
Normally, no matter what style of castle, the royal cemetery would be built near the city gate, so the sarcophagi in these cemeteries naturally aroused Han Zu's interest. He prepared to take a few steps forward and open the sarcophagi one by one to take a look. He was not greedy for the burial objects inside, but just wanted to try his luck and see if anyone's burial objects were scrolls or something like that. If so, maybe he could get some clues about their identities from them.
Han Zu's energy did indeed become abnormal after entering Bastinburg, becoming strangely chaotic. Besides the pollution aura that he didn't need to maintain, Han Zu couldn't easily use his energy to attack, and needed some time to adapt. Fortunately, his physical fitness wasn't negatively affected, and he still had some strength, so opening the sarcophagi wasn't a problem for him.
"A cenotaph?"
After opening several sarcophagi, Han Zu found no remains within. Only fragments of clothing and armor from the era, along with some severely corroded cold weapons, were found. There were also numerous burial objects, including various gemstones, gold and silver items, but none of the scrolls or other recorded materials Han Zu had anticipated. Han Zu showed little interest in these items and quickly completed his search of this section of the cemetery.
The entire Bastinburg cemetery is divided into three sections. The first, where Han Zu lay, contains seven or eight well-preserved sarcophagi. The second area resembles a royal mausoleum, containing only two sarcophagi and a large tomb with a crypt. This was likely the burial place for those worthy of the castle's master. The two sarcophagi outside the royal mausoleum were badly damaged, shattered into a pile of rubble, and the remains that should have been buried within were nowhere to be found. Only a few rusted swords and iron halberds, at least what remained of them, lay scattered among the overgrown weeds. Near these weapon fragments lay several discolored skeletons: two white, two red, and one slightly blackened, but not too severely.
Han Zu stepped over the skeletons and planned to take a few steps forward to open the stone door of the royal mausoleum and see what was inside. But when Han Zu just pushed open the stone door, he heard some strange noises coming from behind him.
“Kala-la…”
“Kala-la…”
Han Zu was familiar with this sound, but he had never actually experienced it himself. This crisp, rubbing sound seemed to be the friction produced by the skeletons moving as they stood up again. Han Zu stopped what he was doing and turned around to take a look. Sure enough, the skeletons he had previously passed by had strangely stood up again.
“Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!”
"Ping, ping, ping."
A skeleton archer, its skeleton blackened in color, stood in the distance. With a speed belying its appearance, it raised its battered bow and unleashed three arrows in quick succession towards Han Zu. Han Zu didn't dodge, allowing the arrows to penetrate him. Although the arrows failed to penetrate Han Zu's physical defenses, Han Zu immediately sensed the difference between these black skeletons. From the crisp sound of his body contacting the arrows, Han Zu didn't need the contractor's equipment to scan them. This black skeleton archer had accomplished something remarkable with just a few scraps of metal. Han Zu had no doubt that if the target had been a metal wall instead of himself, it would have been pierced directly by these shabby arrows. Although these skeletons looked fragile, their offensive power was no joke.
"Ping! Pong! Bang!!"
Soon, the skeletons surrounded Han Zu and began to attack him with the broken weapons in their hands. Of course, those broken copper and iron could not hit Han Zu, but from the sounds made when these weapons collided with Han Zu's body, it could be judged that these skeletons were not easy to deal with.
"null!"
Han Zu didn't think much about it. He just picked a target and punched it. According to common sense, let alone a skeleton, even a heavy tank would be seriously injured by a punch from Han Zu. However, the skeleton that was hit directly in the skull by Han Zu seemed to be fine except for staggering back a few steps.
"Wow? Interesting!"
If one blow didn't work, he'd try a few more. After hammering the same skeleton three or four times, it finally fell to the ground, blasted into a pile of bone fragments. This level of defense was already outrageous.
He now wanted to quickly clear out all the skeletons attacking him, but it wasn't that easy. It wasn't that he couldn't kill them, but simply using physical force wasn't very effective against them. Han Zu had recorded that to kill a skeleton with his bare hands, he needed at least three punches. The number of skeletons here was different from what he had just seen on the ground. He only saw the remains of three or four skeletons, but now, besides the one he had smashed, there were still eight or nine attacking him, which meant he needed to hit them at least twenty times.
Despite the hassle, Han Zu had to deal with them first, even if they posed no threat. He wasn't particularly happy about driving a train, especially when he couldn't currently use a wide-area attack. The pollution aura could slow their movement and speed, but these creatures weren't very fast to begin with, so the effect wasn't significant. Most importantly, these resurrected skeletons didn't possess any energy that Han Zu could absorb or contaminate, making the pollution aura useless for dealing with them.
"Okay, just consider it a warm-up."
Dealing with some slow-moving skeletons was just an appetizer for Han Zu. It wasn't difficult. In about two or three minutes, Han Zu had cleared out almost all of the skeletons and smashed them into pieces. Only one skeleton was still alive, a skeleton archer. It stood at a distance and kept shooting arrows at Han Zu.
"No, you don't even have a fucking quiver. Where did you get all those bows and arrows? The fourth-dimensional Yuanyue Dingmugen???"
While complaining about the skeleton archer in the distance, Han Zu began to search around on the ground. The skeleton archer had already run to the edge of the cemetery, about 20 meters away from him. Han Zu was not going to run over there alone for it, so he prepared to pick up something from the ground and get rid of it on the spot.
"This should work, I'll try it."
Because of their attack methods, the skeletons, armed with swords, spears, and halberds, were very close to Han Zu. So, when he killed them, Han Zu accidentally destroyed their weapons along with them, leaving him with nothing handy. However, one skeleton archer didn't make it to safety before being killed, and Han Zu shattered it with a punch and a kick. The longbow it was holding did survive, falling to the ground. Han Zu happened to see it and picked it up. Also in its other hand was a bow and arrow, which hadn't been strung yet.
"Bang~~"
"call out!"
"Snapped!"
Han Zu bent his bow and drew his arrow, carefully aiming at the distant skeleton archer. He then released the bowstring, and the taut bowstring launched the arrow at high speed, striking the skeleton archer's skull. Han Zu's strength was no joke. The arrow, though not particularly strong, pierced the skull directly, shattering it from the impact. The skeleton archer fell to the ground, completely dead.
"Ok?"
Han Zu clearly remembered that the skeleton archer he killed with one arrow had never been attacked by him before. He immediately understood that it was not because his attack was weakened, but because he was bound by something, which could be said to be a rule. However, the act of using the bow and arrow picked up from the ground seemed to break or abide by the rules, which allowed him to kill the opponent in one go.
Han Zu wanted to give it an experiment, but he had already cleared out the skeletons around him, so he couldn't make a comparison for the time being to confirm whether things were as he thought. But to be on the safe side, Han Zu picked up a relatively intact short-handled axe on the ground and put it on his lower back.
"laugh......."
"boom!!!!!!"
After dealing with all the skeletons in the area in front of the royal mausoleum, Han Zu returned to the stone door of the royal mausoleum that he had pushed open a crack, and was ready to open the stone door completely to see what was inside. Who would have thought that as soon as he pushed open the stone door, before he looked up, Han Zu heard the sound of some energy gathering. When he looked up again, a fireball as big as a washbasin hit him directly in the face, blasting him out and hitting the side of the city wall.
"What the hell?"
Han Zu was not injured, but was blown away by the sudden fireball. After getting up from the ground, he looked towards the direction of the royal tomb in confusion. At a glance, he saw a black skeleton covered with a piece of rag and leaning on a rotten wood with its right hand. Its left hand was facing him, and flames were rapidly gathering and gradually evolved into another big fireball. Then, under Han Zu's gaze, the big fireball flew towards him again.
"Hu~~"
This time, Han Zu was prepared. When the fireball approached him, he actively increased the energy output of his energy conversion ability, trying to absorb the big fireball. But the strange thing was that until the fireball blasted Han Zu away again, he did not feel any energy fluctuations.
"what's the situation???"
The fireball was indeed a real fireball, as it ignited the nearby weeds and generated a corresponding amount of heat near the ignition point, but Han Zu couldn't sense any energy fluctuations. He had been blown away in real life, twice, so Han Zu wasn't hallucinating. This made him wonder if his energy conversion ability was being affected by the energy fluctuations within his body, rendering it ineffective.
But soon, by absorbing and transforming the energy dissipated in the surrounding air, Han Zu determined that there was nothing wrong with his energy conversion ability, and that the skeleton that threw the fireball did not have any energy. But because of this, Han Zu became even more confused.
"boom!"
But now is not the time to think. The skeleton threw out another big fireball. This time Han Zu remembered and avoided the bombardment of the fireball. Fortunately, the fireball flew very slowly and in a parabola, so it was easy to dodge it.
Han Zu took out the hatchet from his waist, aimed at the skull's head, and threw it. But just before it hit, a pink, transparent sphere suddenly appeared on the skull, blocking the hatchet and stopping it at the edge of the sphere. Then, he gently pushed it with the rotten wood, and it fell to the ground.
"Still alive?"
"boom!"
Another fireball flew towards him, and Han Zu dodged it sideways. Feeling the heat from the burning behind him, he thought for a moment and picked up a sarcophagus lid from the ground nearby, using it as a shield. Waiting for the opponent's move, the skeleton soon threw another fireball, but this time Han Zu did not dodge, but instead blocked it with the sarcophagus lid in front of him.
"Bang~~!"
Sure enough, this time the fireball hit Han Zu but failed to send him flying. The fireball was blocked by the lid of the sarcophagus and couldn't even ignite the nearby weeds.
"I'm really going to teach you a lesson for littering."
Holding the sarcophagus lid, Han Zu braved the enemy's fireballs and reached the skeleton. He was about to wait for the skeleton to finish throwing fireballs before smashing it with the sarcophagus lid, but after an explosion, there was no movement in front of him. After waiting for a while, Han Zu moved the sarcophagus lid and took a look at the situation in front of him. However, after confirming what had happened, Han Zu was speechless.
The skeleton that threw the fireball didn't look very smart. The fireball exploded at close range, not only did it not hurt Han Zu, but it blew itself to pieces. The rotten cloth on its body and the rotten wood in its hands were now burning, and its own bones turned into bone powder, which was scattered everywhere along with the flow of hot air.
"Isn't this pure idiocy?"
Han Zu scratched his head and threw away the sarcophagus lid in his hand. He wanted to laugh, but felt that laughing would lower his IQ, so he took a few deep breaths, held back his laughter, and after calming down, he planned to continue investigating the situation inside the royal tomb.
