Chapter 14 Old Site
Chapter 14 Old Site
"Is this the place?"
Lu Mingfei opened the car door, and a damp, cool morning breeze carrying the distinctive smell of engine oil from the industrial area rushed towards him. Following the directions, he led Chu Zihang to a building.
The office building of the Media Asia Group.
Before me stood a three-story, square, gray-white building. Through the open windows, I could see employees in uniform coming and going in their offices, creating a bustling and prosperous scene.
Behind the small building were rows of workshops, closely packed together. From the half-closed iron gates, a series of low, continuous industrial noises could be heard.
That was the sound of heavy-duty machine tools; even without using his magic, Lu Mingfei could hear it from a great distance.
"This is the Huanya Group." Chu Zihang nodded.
This area is on the edge of the city and was designated as a "high-tech heavy industrial zone" by the city government as early as ten years ago. A large number of companies have built factories and developed around this area, and the government has given it high hopes and support.
And the Asia Pacific Group is the "leader" among these companies, the best of the best. Even the boss is a wealthy businessman from out of town. It is said that ten years ago, he brought a large amount of capital and claimed that he would build Asia's number one special metal base in this small city.
"How do we get in?" Lu Mingfei asked, looking at the security guard and then at the sign in his hand.
"How about we climb over the wall?"
It wasn't that Lu Mingfei didn't want to follow the rules, but the security guards of such a large company would likely be quite vigilant, and he felt that climbing over the wall was more convenient than using the proper channels.
"Okay." Chu Zihang nodded in agreement without even hesitating. "I'll do whatever you say."
The two exchanged a glance, then vanished in an instant, scaling the wall, traversing the long corridor, and bypassing office after office. Fortunately, it was working hours, and the workers were all in the factory; they didn't encounter a single person along the way.
"That went so smoothly?"
On the second basement level, Lu Mingfei looked around at the deep, narrow corridors and couldn't help but admire him. "I never imagined Uncle had such a strong mental fortitude; he could even live in such a dark and gloomy place?"
The hum of the air conditioner compressor echoed through the dimly lit corridor, and several boxes of metal parts were even piled up in the corner. Clearly, this place could not even be considered a normal living area at first, but was just an air conditioner room and warehouse.
"This kerosene smell is almost like we're burning!" Lu Mingfei rubbed his nose.
"Probably because there's a factory building above, this is part of the ventilation system."
"The ventilation doesn't look very good either; it feels like they're pumping kerosene right in. How come Uncle, a half-blood, lives here?"
Lu Mingfei couldn't understand how anyone could live in such a dark and greasy place. This Chu Tianjiao was truly a prodigy.
Chu Zihang did not reply, but walked step by step, sensing the traces of where that man had lived.
"Looks like we've arrived." Following the sign in his hand, Lu Mingfei stopped in front of an iron gate, examining the keyhole. "This kind of lock is hard to pick."
A figure bypassed Lu Mingfei, and Chu Zihang stepped forward and placed his hand on the door lock. The next instant, with a click, the tightly locked metal latch broke.
"It's a short-range strike." As if noticing Lu Mingfei's gaze, Chu Zihang explained.
"I learned a little Tai Chi in Kassel, so I have some basic knowledge."
"This can't even be considered basic anymore, can it?" Lu Mingfei thought to himself. "They're so skilled. This doesn't look like someone who's even had a little bit of training."
recidivist!
Chu Zihang had no idea that Lu Mingfei was slandering him in his heart, and even if he did, he probably wouldn't care. He only felt that the door was very heavy, and he had to use all his strength to push it open.
The door slowly opened, and by the light of the corridor, he could see the furnishings inside.
Contrary to their expectations of a dusty room, behind the door was a clean and tidy little house with a double bed, a bedside table, a writing desk and a chair, and a small refrigerator. That was all the two of them could see.
It was also all the furniture belonging to that man named Chu Tianjiao.
Neither of them spoke. Chu Zihang didn't want to talk, while Lu Mingfei simply didn't dare to. He couldn't guarantee he wouldn't say something as lame as "Uncle really loves cleanliness." Right now, his senior brother was missing his family, and he didn't want to ruin the atmosphere.
As for whether this might also be a mistake? Lu Mingfei thought it was unlikely.
He and Chu Zihang both saw it the moment they entered the room; it was the most important and conspicuous thing in the room.
It was a family photo; Lu Mingfei recognized the face, and naturally, Chu Zihang recognized it too.
The usually calm "iceberg" staggered forward, grabbed the family photo, the woman was radiant, the boy looked only four or five years old, and the man was wearing a white shirt and woolen trousers, with a handsome slicked-back hairstyle, proudly putting his arm around the woman's waist.
Chu Zihang's cold expression melted away, and he just stared blankly at the family photo. From Lu Mingfei's perspective, he could even see the tears in the corners of his eyes. Then he turned around and looked around the room.
He couldn't stand this drama; the wanderer had finally found traces of his family.
This is truly delightful...
Before he could even express his feelings, a few invoices on the table caught his eye and stopped his sadness.
He could understand eating and drinking, it's a business activity for reimbursement, but what on earth is this "Alibaba Foot Massage City" on that receipt?
This uncle is really something else...
Lu Mingfei didn't know whether to describe him as wild or unrestrained. After all, according to Chu Zihang's description, even though this uncle was divorced, he often tried to find out about his aunt's situation from her. He thought his uncle was a devoted person.
"This isn't right..."
Thinking this, Lu Mingfei sat down on the edge of the bed, clutching the invoice. His eyes darted around, and if you disregarded the lighting, the room was actually a good place—quiet and peaceful, and there was no need to worry about thieves breaking in.
This is indeed the perfect choice for ordinary people who don't have money, but Chu Zihang's father is not an ordinary person. He is a mixed-race person, so why does he live here?
They can't possibly be short of money.
Lu Mingfei's gaze shifted to suspicion, quickly scanning the mottled wallpaper before finally settling on the double bed beneath him. A two-meter-wide double bed was a behemoth in this small room; a room where someone usually lived alone had a double bed? He kicked the bed frame with his heel.
thump, thump, thump
Lu Mingfei could tell that it wasn't the sound of a hollow steel frame being kicked and stomped on; the bed was solid underneath!
There really is a hidden secret under this bed. He thought the spy movie was just a scare tactic, but it turns out to be a realistic film.
I just don't know if this uncle studied film, or if film studied him.
But Lu Mingfei doesn't care about all that right now.
"Senior brother, come here for a moment."
After saying that, Lu Mingfei took a deep breath, his chest expanded suddenly, and his magic flowed through his arms. He then flipped the entire bed over and placed it on the ground, revealing the secret that had been hidden under the mattress.
Instead of the usual wooden planks, it was a cold, square door, perfectly fitted into the solid steel beneath the bed.
A hidden door!
