075 Unexpected Visitor
As night fell, the Amber Pavilion lit up, its enormous floor-to-ceiling windows illuminating the dazzling lights. It was a villa with Gothic spires, a roof covered in deep red tiles, and walls clad in Indian granite.
Student council members, dressed in black formal attire with white handkerchiefs or deep red roses in their shirt pockets, stood in the corridor to greet guests.
Lu Mingfei stood under the sycamore tree opposite and looked around for a long time.
"Tsk tsk, Caesar's living space is big enough for a hundred of us," he remarked. "Isn't such a big house drafty?"
"He rented it; he usually lives in the dormitory." Zero stood next to him, her white crystal dress sparkling. "Amber Hall is used as a venue for student council activities."
"I know, Fingel told me." Lu Mingfei loosened his tie. "Even if it's rented, this kind of extravagance is intimidating enough."
Zero glanced at him.
"You have Norton House."
"Um?"
"The Norton Arena is bigger, older, and in a better location than the Amber Arena," Zero said. "And you won it yourself."
"Why don't you stay here?" Zero asked.
Lu Mingfei scratched the back of his head, thinking about how to explain.
"I don't have money to pay the electricity bill..."
"You have money."
"I'm not used to it," he said. "Living alone in such a big place, the hallway is just my own echo at night, it feels so empty."
"You blockhead, you have no sense of romance! My expressionless girl wants to live with you!"
A clear female voice came from behind him, and a curvaceous body pressed against him, her long hair brushing against his cheek.
Lu Mingfei froze, and before he could react, a pair of arms reached out from behind and wrapped tightly around his neck.
The woman embracing him was tall, wearing a white cheongsam with a high slit on the side, revealing strong, muscular legs.
Caesar, who had been waiting for Lu Mingfei for a long time, was about to walk over and ask Lu Mingfei what he was dawdling about when he saw this scene. He immediately stopped and gasped.
"Hiss—" Nono peeked out from behind him, squinting as she looked at the girl who was hugging Lu Mingfei.
"Who's this?" Nono asked curiously. "Is he that brave?"
Lu Mingfei's brain was racing. Everyone in the entire Kassel College knew he was already a nobody, so why was someone trying to steal his bride? No, wait, if anyone's going to steal someone, steal Ye Sheng! Ye Sheng is the star of the day! Why are you hugging me?
Just as he was lost in thought, the woman who was holding him let go, walked around to face him, and bowed deeply.
"Thank you for saving my sister."
Lu Mingfei was stunned.
"Are you Mai, the one with the best taste in alcohol?"
"It is I." Mai Shude straightened up and looked at him with a smile.
Lu Mingfei looked at her, then thought about the gentle face of Shudeya. The two sisters really didn't look alike.
The library is located forty meters underground, in the college's central computer room.
"There are more experts?" Fingel spat out the beer in his mouth, splashing it onto the screen.
"Who is this?!" He wiped the screen with his sleeve, zooming in on the surveillance footage. "How dare she forcibly hug someone else's boyfriend in public? And dressed so provocatively? Doesn't she have any shame? Does the school board have such no bottom line? Quick, dig up some dirt on her!"
Eve retrieved her identification information and said, "She is Mai Shutoku, Aki Shutoku's older sister. She is not a registered student at Kassel College; she is attending the party tonight as a family member."
Fingel's hand hovered above the keyboard, his expression shifting from anger to confusion, and then from confusion to entanglement.
Then, sweating profusely and filled with anxiety, Lord Laurent's task was not going to be completed!
"What can I do?" he murmured. "My sister is getting engaged tonight, and it's only right that I repay her kindness by marrying her savior. I can't stop her..."
Zero reached out and pulled Mai back, saying, "You shouldn't have come."
"But I still came!"
"How will you complete the mission?"
Mai shrugged.
"The plans have changed," she said. "Originally, it was going to take me a lot of effort to get in tonight, but Aki's engaged now. Thanks to my sister, as the older sister, I can just walk in openly as a family member. And it's perfectly reasonable to bring a few retainers along for show, isn't it?"
"Retainers? You have retainers too?" Lu Mingfei hadn't expected that Jiu De Mai had such a powerful background.
"They were the mercenaries originally planned. I sent them to Ye Sheng's side to teach our young lady's son-in-law some manners."
Mercenaries can do this kind of thing? Lu Mingfei silently felt sorry for Ye Sheng for a second.
"Come on, let's go see my sister together." Mai grabbed one of them with each hand and pulled them towards the Amber Mansion.
Ma Yi, with her long legs and large strides, walked with the air of a master.
Caesar, who had been waiting anxiously at the door, saw the three of them together and quickly went to greet them.
"Zero, you are truly radiant," Caesar said. "And Lu Mingfei, you are both the stars of the day. Please."
"As for this lady," his gaze shifted to Mai, "forgive my bluntness, but you have an outstanding presence; I shouldn't be unaware of you."
"I'm not from Kassel College," Mai replied with a smile. "I'm Aki's older sister, Mai Shutoku."
Caesar's expression was subtle.
He glanced at Aki, who was talking to Selma not far away, and then at Mai in front of him.
The two sisters really don't look alike.
"elder sister!"
Aki jogged over. Tonight she was wearing a white dress and her hair was braided into a side braid. She looked much more elegant than usual, but she still had that girl-next-door look.
"You should have said you were coming! And you've made such a commotion right away!" Aki grabbed Mai's arm and dragged her inside. "Quickly call the people you brought away, stop messing with Ye Sheng."
"This is for your own good." Mai followed Aki and said seriously, "You're so ordinary. If I, as your older sister, don't give Ye Sheng a hard time now, you'll suffer later."
"Ye Sheng isn't that kind of person!" Aki exclaimed anxiously. "Besides, the people you invited aren't Japanese. They're talking about yakuza rules from anime. Ye Sheng won't understand what they're saying!"
"It's not easy to find the right person in America," Mai said, shrugging with an innocent expression.
Aki glared at her, and Mai glared back. The two stared at each other for a few seconds.
Finally, Aki gave in, sighed, and grabbed her sister's arm to head upstairs. Mai was dragged a couple of steps, then turned back and winked at Lu Mingfei, mouthing "I can't help it."
Caesar watched Lu Mingfei and Zero enter the hall, then turned to Nono and said, "You scared me. I thought she was here to steal Lu Mingfei from Zero."
"And then you find out she just came to thank her savior?" Nono said.
"right."
Nono looked towards the stairs and said thoughtfully, "I feel like they know each other very well. Zero and that Mai Shude must have known each other for a long time."
Caesar glanced at her: "What did you figure out?"
"Zero seems to really dislike Mai Shutoku being here."
"That's normal, isn't it? Nobody likes their boyfriend being flirted with by other girls," Caesar said. "Besides, Mai Shutoku seems to have a lot of advantages."
"No," Nono shook her head, "Zero was simply surprised to see Mai Shude here, as if she had expected her to be somewhere else."
Why?
"I don't know, it's just a feeling."
Nono shook her head, feeling that this Jiude Mai seemed to have other motives.
