As his secretary, named Percy, watched her boss complain, she gently poured him a glass of red wine to ease his anxiety. He calmly replied:
"This is precisely how he behaves as a legitimate member, and only they can conceal a person's origins."
As he spoke, Percy pulled out another piece of paper, which was a picture of Wang Anzhi and a beautiful woman with a human body and a snake tail. "Moreover, he has a secret connection with Nuwa, the head of the orthodox Zhou family. This is a picture that Norma took by chance."
Frost looked at the person in the photograph and was not surprised by the woman's unusual appearance.
The orthodox hybrid race has an extremely long history, and unlike the Secret Society's history of several interruptions and resurgences, the orthodox lineage has never been broken throughout history.
This is why they still retain some characteristics of the "mythical age".
The "Nuwa" form passed down through generations of the Zhou family patriarchs is one such example.
Therefore, upon seeing the girl's radiant smile and stunning beauty in the photo, Frost knew immediately that she was undoubtedly the head of the Zhou family.
Looking at Percy, Frost muttered to himself again:
"Moreover, this happened on their territory, and only they have the ability to pull a so-called S-class specialist who doesn't exist in the records of the main academy out of history and pass the message on to us through a preparatory student."
Frost took a small sip of red wine. It was slightly bitter, but sweetness followed. He didn't care much about Wang Anzhi. In his eyes, he was just a pawn pushed out by the orthodox faction. So what if he had too close a relationship with the head of the Zhou family? It didn't affect his status as a pawn.
He sighed softly, “To this day, orthodoxy has become a major threat that cannot be ignored.” He quickly overturned his conclusion, “No, they always have been, it’s just that we have never confronted them directly.”
He then took another sip of red wine.
Frost was a politician and a patriarch who valued the interests of his family more than his determination to slay the dragon.
In his view, the orthodox path is not a Sasuke on the road to slaying dragons, but a major threat to the future struggle for the dragon clan's legacy.
"Master, please excuse me and drink less. The members of the academy's board of directors have almost all arrived." Percy said politely as he watched Frost pour glass after glass of wine.
The school board is the current elders' council of the Secret Service, and each member can influence the economic lifeline of a country.
Frost put down his glass. "They should have arrived by now. The Black King's resurgence, the Dragon King's shadow, the mysteriously disappeared S-class agents—none of these are insignificant."
He chuckled to himself, “Damn it, of all times I have to encounter this,” and shook his head. He didn’t feel any pain; instead, he was immersed in the process of gaining power.
"What about Pompeii? He should have received Angers' message as well."
Pompeii was the rightful head of the Gattuso family, and compared to him, Frost, no matter how hard he tried, was merely an acting head of the family.
“The patriarch doesn’t care about this. He was fishing in the North Sea not long ago and hasn’t had the time right now,” Percy replied, lowering his eyes.
He stood up. "How many school board members have arrived?"
“Principal Angers was the last to disembark and is now at the manor gate,” Passy added.
"He said that he was the one who first passed this information on to us, and only he had the ability to secretly hide an S-class, and he also had the motive to do it," Frost said calmly.
Hilbert Jean Angers, an English gentleman with a French name who served as an American soldier, is the current leader of the Secret Society. He has an airtight control over the Kassel College headquarters and constantly sends his students, who admire him immensely, into various branches in an attempt to gain deeper control over the Secret Society's scattered mixed-race families.
In Frost's eyes, this was undoubtedly a huge, even increasingly out-of-control, ambitious man.
Percy lowered his head and remained silent. He knew that Frost was just talking to himself and didn't expect him to answer.
He followed Frost out of the room, through a long garden, and down a corridor strong enough to protect against a hydrogen bomb attack, until they reached the door of the underground conference room.
Angers stood at the door, chatting and laughing with another member of the board of directors, Ms. Elizabeth Laurent, and greeted Frost, who had arrived somewhat late.
"Frost, you're too late."
"You too, Angers."
Percy opened and closed the meeting doors for them, watching as the last Secret Party elders stepped into the meeting room.
He then stood respectfully at the door, without overstepping his bounds, only his two eyes, one blue and one gold, gleaming with an unknown light.
Chapter 22 The Secret Service's Elders
Inside the door was a long table, with four men and two women sitting on either side. Each of them had a small brass bell in front of them, which they would ring to signal when they wanted to speak.
This is a tradition of the Secret Party, which is said to have originated from the citizens' assembly in Athens.
Of the two girls present, one of whom had clearly transitioned from a childish to an adult, stood with a butler behind her. Compared to the girl, the butler seemed more like the one in charge, and he was also the only attendant among everyone present who had accompanied the head of the family.
"Everyone has arrived. The person who has never attended is still absent, and those who attended in the past have lost their eligibility to attend."
Angers' tone was low, seemingly tinged with sadness, but everyone knew he wasn't actually saddened by the past.
As is well known, those present, including Angers, are in fact the new elites of the Secret Party, and the ancient dragon-slaying families such as the Cassel family, the Beowulf family, the Cadmus family, the Saint George family, the Sigurd family, and so on.
They either died on the path of dragon slaying or succumbed to the corrupting influence of money. In short, these ancient dragon-slaying families have lost their core position in the Secret Society because they could not adapt to the rules of the new era.
Instead, trusts and syndicates controlled by the Gattuso, Laurent, and Frings families, respectively, became the economic lifelines of Italy, France, and Germany. Together, they formed half of the European Union.
Or perhaps they are lucky individuals like Angers, who rose to the center of power by leveraging platforms like the Kassel College and their status as survivors of the Lionheart Society's annihilation.
There are also families like the Göttingen family, which possess core technologies and have ancient alchemical heritages—they are the de facto replacements for Master Flamel within the Secret Society, and thus hold a place in the Council of Elders as representatives of those ancient families.
In addition, there is another ancient tradition that must be mentioned.
"We have also been inherited in him, who predestined him according to his will, who works all things according to his own will."
This is from Ephesians in the New Testament, meaning "Everything is the Lord's plan, and we are all following the Lord's ways."
The speaker had his head bowed and his face full of piety, but when he raised his head, no one could ignore his voice. He was Pope Benedict XVI of Rome.
The friendship between the Pope and the Secret Society has been a constant throughout the history of the Secret Society; from the very beginning of the Church, the Pope was an elder of the Secret Society.
For two thousand years, it has never wavered.
Fifteen hundred years ago, the Pope even personally led the Knights Templar to repel the invasion of Attila the Dragon King, preventing him from ever establishing a rule on Roman soil, on his former lands.
Everyone present was a believer in God, and although they had long since sold their hearts to the devil, they still maintained respect and silence in the face of the “apostle of God’s” speech.
The only family absent was the Romanovs, who had long since lost everything—wealth, status, power, everything.
However, he still holds a place in the Secret Party, being one of the seven elders in the party, and sends a huge investment to Kassel College every year, but he never attends any Secret Party meetings.
Finally, Angers was the first to break the silence. He smiled and said, "Joseph, we are not gathered here for God. I think we all know how serious this situation is."
Joseph is the birth name of Benedict XVI. Now 82 years old, he is a junior compared to Angers, who is 130 years old.
Or rather, all the elders of the Secret Party were juniors in front of Angers.
Benedict XVI nodded and then bowed.
Angers then spoke, his voice noticeably heavier.
"The Dragon King, possibly resurrected, was hiding in the shadows. He ambushed the S-class specialist from the academy, whom we were unaware of, and stole the Black King's Egg that should have belonged to our academy."
Angers spread his hands, full of helplessness. "When I first heard the students' report, I almost thought it was April Fool's Day, or a joke played on us by the gods."
Frost Gattuso spoke first, his voice icy, "But we all know this is no joke; the fact that only S-rank privileges in that academy can open that weapon crate is proof of that."
Benedict XVI nodded. "This is precisely the guidance that the Lord has given us."
Angers sighed, "Yes, that's the contradiction. We don't remember any S-class agent named Chu Tianjiao, but his weapon case tells us of his existence."
He leaned back in his chair, shifting his body slightly, and joked, "Does anyone here have any information about this Chu Tianjiao, or is he one of the hunting dogs that you all secretly keep?"
The Frings family member was a middle-aged man and a very unusual figure among the elders of the Secret Society. He was approachable and did not have the arrogant attitude of others.
However, at this moment he looked at Angers with a somewhat aggressive air.
“Angers, I think we all know that we may have S-level combat power, but you are the only one who can truly grant him S-level authority.”
The members of the board of trustees wield enormous power, but the college in Kassel, Illinois, is actually under the control of Angers.
If someone could secretly hide an S-class character from everyone, it would probably only be Angers.
“Moreover, in Angers, the academy has been promoting Chinese education for over forty years, and the name Chu Tianjiao is undoubtedly a Chinese name,” the middle-aged head of the household shrugged. “Of course, this doesn’t prove anything, but it’s a direction, isn’t it?”
He looked at the others, trying to find a supporter.
Frost rang the bell in front of him almost without hesitation and announced his speech.
“That’s right, Angers. We’ve entrusted the academy to you, and you should give us all an explanation.”
Elizabeth Laurent shook the bell in front of her and looked at Angers, the old man who was like a father to her, in a gentle tone.
“Principal Angers, is there any record of Norma in his database? Whether it’s that S-class specialist named Chu Tianjiao or his weapon case that’s full of the Equipment Department’s style.”
At this time, Chu Tianjiao's weapon case had already been transported to the main campus of the academy. The violent weapons inside made even the lunatic in the equipment department of Kassel College whistle, claiming that they must be their past works, otherwise they would not appear outdated yet artistic.
Angers saw everyone looking at him and smiled helplessly.
"I think everyone already knows the answer. Norma's database, the academy's archives, your and my memories—everything undoubtedly points to one conclusion: Chu Tianjiao does not exist, and that weapon case was not part of the academy's plan."
Chapter 23 The Seventh Seat of the Secret Party
"This is impossible."
Charlotte Gottingen, the only minor present and one of only two girls, exclaimed in surprise, seemingly having not yet carefully reviewed the previous materials.
Despite her efforts to appear mature, her lack of composure was undeniable.
The butler behind the girl held her shoulders, but the girl broke free and said, "Norma is not just a reforging of alchemy, but also combines the most advanced technology of mankind today. The Dragon King may be able to deceive our eyes and even our memories, but he can never deceive cold machines."
Charlotte hesitated. No one knew better than her, the master alchemist, about the gap between technology and alchemy. One after another, great scientists in human history had plunged into this abyss, trying to unify the two but ending up with nothing. Even the construction of Norma in the modern era was done by experts from both the alchemy and human technology sides, each responsible for completely unrelated parts, and then integrating them, rather than directly fusing alchemy with technology.
"unless……"
Charlotte hesitated, as if she dared not voice her guess.
"Unfortunately, little girl, you are the one who is not."
Angers looked at everyone, and everyone looked into his deep, sky-blue eyes. "It turns out that if a Dragon King has indeed been resurrected, then he has likely mastered advanced computer technology, at least not inferior to Norma of the headquarters."
Angers' staunchest supporter, the young Elizabeth Laurent, was somewhat incredulous. "Angers, are you saying that after the Dragon King's resurrection, he not only had the leisure to steal important things from the academy and kill the academy's strongest S-class specialist, but also took some time to learn some programming skills and quickly advanced them to the forefront of the world?"
Elizabeth shook her head repeatedly, as if listening to a myth.
Angers' expression was gentle, but his words were extremely cold, shattering everyone's illusions: "I think so, Lisa."
Frost then stood up again, his gaze sweeping over everyone before finally settling on Angers. “Instead of thinking about whether the Dragon King has learned human technology, let’s consider something else,” Frost’s voice was colder and more cruel than Angers’. “Have there been traitors among us, who have broken the ancient Abrahamic blood pact, betrayed the future of humanity, and joined… the Dragon King’s ranks?”
Frost spoke slowly and deliberately, "I think everyone here has the authority to modify or delete secrets in Norma's database that they don't want others to know. Isn't that more reasonable than the Dragon King learning information technology?"
Norma is very powerful, possibly the most powerful artificial intelligence in the world today, but Norma is still subject to the authority of the elders, such as the Board of Trustees and the Secret Service.
Charlotte pursed her lips, opened her mouth, but didn't say anything. Her butler pulled her back, while Elizabeth Laurent remained silent. It has to be said that rather than believing that the dragon king had learned the technology, it was better to believe that there was a traitor within their ranks.
The two girls remained silent, as did the other four men. It was easy to blame internal factors, but what about the subsequent cleanup?
