Kael'thas nodded, feeling much more at ease.
The team moved at a fast pace and, after several days, finally arrived at their destination.
The outline of the Alliance camp came into view ahead. It was a huge camp built against the broken walls of Dalaran and a few intact buildings. Banners were fluttering, but most of them were dilapidated. The camp was surrounded by a large number of chevaux-de-frise, trenches and watchtowers. The patrolling soldiers mostly looked tired, but their discipline was still acceptable.
The arrival of the Blood Elf army, especially the undeniable Holy Fire Phoenix in the sky and the Holy Light Angels flying around them, immediately caused a great commotion among the camp's garrison.
"Warning! Unidentified creature ahead!"
"It's a blood elf! Prince Kael'thas has arrived!"
"My God! What is that? A... glowing phoenix?"
"Such a powerful aura of holy light! Is that an angel?"
The soldiers on the watchtower shouted loudly, and horns sounded throughout the camp.
A group of relatively well-equipped human soldiers, led by a general, quickly came out of the camp and blocked the way. Their eyes moved warily back and forth between the blood elf group and the Holy Fire Phoenix, filled with vigilance and distrust.
The leading general's gaze swept over Kael'thas, finally landing on Rhodes, who was clearly human and possessed an extraordinary bearing. His brows furrowed: "Prince Kael'thas, you are late. Who... are these people?"
"And that creature, please explain!" His tone was cold, with a clear commanding air.
Kael'thas's face darkened, and he was about to speak when Rhodes stepped forward.
“I am the Regent of Lordaeron, sent by Her Highness Princess Calia Menethil to take over the supreme command of the remaining forces of the Alliance in Lordaeron. Now, take me to see Marshal Garithos, or are you Garithos?”
Jaina stepped forward and said loudly, "I am Jaina Proudmoore, Princess of Kul Tiras. I can vouch for Lord Rhodes' identity and Princess Calia's appointment."
"I am Grand Marshal Garithos, Regent of Lordaeron? And Princess Kul Tiras, huh?" Grand Marshal Garithos paused for a moment, then his face showed an expression of absurdity and doubt.
"Ridiculous! I've never heard of any regent appointed by Princess Calia! The royal family of Lordaeron was slaughtered by that traitor Arthas long ago... Who knows if you're an imposter!"
And these elves and that monster…you are all very suspicious.”
Before he could finish speaking, he felt a suffocating pressure descend from the sky!
An immense sense of oppression, purely from sheer power and mental strength, instantly turned his face pale, and the words he was about to say were stuck in his throat.
Rhodes slightly raised his head, his eyes sharpening. The Holy Fire Phoenix in the air seemed to sense his displeasure, letting out a warning cry. It spread its wings, and a dazzling holy light mixed with a scorching aura enveloped the human soldiers, causing them to feel a sense of unease and inexplicable awe.
"Who gave you permission to speak to me like that? I am the Regent of Lordaeron, appointed by Her Highness the Princess and the old King."
Although the old King Terenas is dead, his dying father appointed a successor. Princess Calia took in a large number of refugees from Lordaeron and brought them to the continent of Kalimdor. Now we have established a foothold in Kalimdor, and this return to the Eastern Kingdoms is to rebuild Lordaeron.
"But you, who gave you this title of Grand Marshal? Was it His Majesty the King who bestowed it upon you, or someone else? Tell me," Rhodes asked with a cold snort.
“My position as Grand Marshal was awarded by the roster of Lordaeron. A princess who abandoned her country has no right to command me,” Garithos said through gritted teeth.
"So you appointed yourself Grand Marshal? What qualifications do you have to carry on Sir Lothar's legacy? Can you lead the people of Lordaeron to defeat the Scourge?" Rhodes asked.
"Of course I can." Garithos had barely finished speaking when the Archangel of Light knocked him unconscious with a straight punch.
“Obviously he can’t,” Rod chuckled.
Chapter 189 If you don't reclaim the royal city, cut off my head.
Garithos fell to the ground with a thud. His strength was only average, not even worthy of being called a master. He had no power to fight back against the Archangel of Holy Light and couldn't even react in time.
He was brought down from his horse by the Archangel of Holy Light in just one glance.
The soldiers behind him stirred, their hands on their sword hilts, yet they dared not make a move. The sacred phoenix spread its wings in the air, casting a blazing and majestic light, as if silently warning anyone who dared to act rashly that whoever did so would die.
No one expected that the first thing the Regent of Lordaeron did upon his arrival would be to intimidate Garithos like this. They thought Rhodes would exchange a few polite words with Garithos and then make him hand over his military power, but Rhodes didn't expect that he would take action so readily.
Rhodes surveyed the surroundings, his gaze sharp: "Is there anyone else who questions the authority of the rightful Regent of Lordaeron? Or who questions Princess Calia's appointment?" His voice was not loud, but it carried clearly throughout the front of the camp.
“Regent Rhodes, we know your identity, we know you were appointed by Her Highness the Princess, everyone knows that, but we are not convinced, we are not satisfied.” A knight who was following Garithos stood up and roared.
"That's right. Why abandon us? Why hide away on the continent of Kalimdor? Are we just supposed to be abandoned and left here to die?"
“Although Lord Garithos does not have a formal title, he is still a knight of Lordaeron and a former officer. Is it wrong for him to lead us in this difficult time?”
To be honest, all the remaining army commanders of Lordaeron harbored resentment towards the royal family, because this disaster was caused by Arthas, the traitor of the royal family.
Princess Galiya, however, only took the refugees from the capital and a small number of refugees to the continent of Kalimdor, which further fueled the discontent of some people and officers on the continent of Lordaeron.
“Lord Rhodes, you’ve gone too far.” Some human knights stood up and began to denounce Rhodes.
Strangely, the dwarf musketeers and some dwarves standing to the side did not say anything.
Garethus was a complete bastard in the eyes of anyone other than the human race. He was ruthless when he gave orders, even pushing people to their limits.
Some races in the Alliance were full of complaints about this so-called Grand Marshal, and some even suggested that King Varian of Stormwind should come and take charge.
However, being far from the emperor's reach, Garithos was the only warrior with the prestige to lead everyone after Rhodes and Gallia left, and the Knights of the Silver Hand did not emerge.
“I know you harbor resentment, but haven’t you noticed? The demon is gone.”
If you have ever encountered a demon in this land, you should know that a demon is far more powerful than an undead.
And have you suffered any large-scale undead attacks in these past few months? Have you suffered any huge losses? The answer is no. Why?
I'm telling you, the reason the Lich King didn't send an undead army is because I destroyed the main force of the demon army. The main force of the Lich King went to Kalimdor to attack Mount Hyjal.
"We fought a bloody battle against the Scourge and the demon army on Mount Hyjal and finally won. You enjoyed the fruits of this victory, yet you showed no gratitude." Rhodes said, looking at the human officers present.
Going to Kalimdor was a last resort, because without going to Kalimdor, there was no chance of victory. Even so, killing Archimonde came at a terrible price.
If it weren't for my appearance, if it weren't for the Archangel of Light, and if it weren't for the pre-emptive outbreak of civil war between the undead and demons, this battle wouldn't have been won so easily.
The true turning point of the Third War was the Battle of Mount Hyjal. Why were the remaining forces of Lordaeron able to regroup and reunite? It was because the main force of the Scourge had left, and the demon army had departed.
Upon hearing this, the crowd began to whisper among themselves. Indeed, as Rhodes had said, they had not suffered any large-scale undead attacks in the past few months. Compared to the terrifying sea of undead at the beginning of the natural disaster and plague outbreak, the current situation was already under control.
They had always thought it was due to Grand Marshal Garithos's effective leadership and the protection of the Holy Light, but they never expected it to be for this reason.
"But why won't Princess Galiya take us with her? Why does she insist on leaving us in Lordaeron to die?" a human officer asked.
"Who told you that Princess Galiya abandoned you? Who told you that we don't care about you?" Rhodes stood up and asked.
"Isn't that so, Regent Rhodes?"
"The answer is that Princess did not leave because the main forces of the demon army and the undead army need to be lured to Mount Hyjal, which will greatly reduce the pressure on your side."
Moreover, the first group of pioneers faced the most difficult and arduous days exploring another new continent, because they had nothing there and had to start everything from scratch.
We also face the threat of another continent. Do you know what the native races of Kalimdor are? There is a terrifying centaur, a group of despicable bandits.
They frequently harass our settlements on the continent of Kalimdor, and many warriors and caravans have been plundered by them. Lord Uther the Lightbringer has been leading the Knights of the Silver Hand in resisting and eliminating those centaurs.
Recently, after the Battle of Mount Hyjal ended, Lord Uther led the paladin forces to clean up the remaining demonic forces from the battle of Mount Hyjal.
Even so, Her Highness still cared about the people of the land. Before leaving, she established a base in Southshore to shelter civilians, and immediately after the Battle of Mount Hyjal ended, she ordered me to return and take charge of the overall situation.
So how could we possibly abandon you? Her Highness will soon return to Lordaeron, and we will even reclaim our capital and regain our former glory.
You are all deceived. Garithos is not fighting for humanity, not for the people; he is only fighting for his own selfish desires.
Otherwise, why didn't he take you to South Sea Town? He wasn't even willing to make any contact with Her Highness the Princess; he's just a warlord who wants to establish himself as king.
"He's no hero at all, don't get that wrong!" Rod shouted.
Rhodes' words struck the hearts of every human soldier like a hammer blow, plunging the camp into a deathly silence. All the soldiers lowered their heads and began to carefully recall everything that had happened recently.
"It seems that, as Lord Rhodes said, the recent undead calamity is much weaker than it was a few months ago."
"Yes, all the demons are gone."
"And why didn't Lord Garithos tell us about Southsea Town?"
"So, Her Highness the Princess did not abandon us."
"We were really deceived."
The human officer, who had just been indignant, opened his mouth but ultimately said nothing. Several generals who had originally sided with Garithos exchanged glances, clearly wavering.
At this moment, the commander of the dwarven musketeer unit finally stepped forward, his voice rough and booming: "Enough! I've had enough of these human squabbles!"
He turned to Rhodes and gave a crisp military salute. "Regent Rhodes, the Wildhammer dwarves acknowledge your authority. That bastard Garithos has always treated our warriors like cannon fodder, never giving us the supplies and respect we deserve. If you truly wish to rebuild an equal alliance, as you say, we dwarves are willing to follow!"
Several dwarf engineers chimed in support: "That's right! Garethus doesn't even provide us with the most basic ordnance repair materials!" "And he's always mocking our inventions!"
"Kael'thas has led the entire Blood Elf alliance back to the Alliance, to obey the Regent's commands." Kael'thas, who was standing to the side, also made his statement.
“I represent Kul Tiras and stand by Regent Rhodes’ side. Regent Rhodes is my lover, and he also represents half of Kul Tiras,” Jaina said.
Incredibly, the female mage also revealed her relationship with Rhodes. Although Rhodes was the regent, he had nothing to do with Princess Calia, so she had to make the first move.
The female elf beside Rhodes posed no threat whatsoever. The one who posed the greatest threat to her, the princess of Kul Tiras, was actually Calia. Therefore, she had to ascertain her relationship with Rhodes.
Rhodes glanced at Jaina, smiled, and nodded in agreement.
The female mage is the most suitable candidate to be the principal wife, after all, Galiya is a second-time bride and has a child.
Rhodes' ambitions extend far beyond being the monarch of a single nation within the entire alliance. With such a powerful Heroes of Might and Magic system, how could he possibly be a slacker?
The situation began to reverse, and a human nobleman immediately knelt on one knee: "The Kapos family is forever loyal to the Menethil royal family! We are willing to obey the Regent's orders!"
More and more human soldiers began to lay down their weapons, and some even knelt down to pledge their loyalty. Seeing this, Garithos's die-hard followers could only reluctantly lower their heads as well.
Rhodes' gaze swept across the entire hall, his tone softening slightly: "Rise, my lords. I do not need your worship, only your loyalty and courage. Now, let us begin our work—for the rebirth of Lordaeron, I assure you I will lead you to reclaim the capital of Lordaeron."
"If I can't do it, cut off my head and hang it on the Alliance's banner," Rhodes roared.
This was his promise to all the Alliance soldiers; how could the capital of Lordaeron be handed over so easily? Of course, it had to be taken back.
Forsaken, go hang out in Stratholme! Or, once you take back Stratholme, you can go to Northrend in the Arctic; the undead aren't afraid of the cold anyway.
“Follow in your footsteps, Regent Rhodes.”
"Reclaim the capital! Reclaim Dalaran!" countless soldiers shouted.
Chapter 190 Subduing the Army, the Undead Scourge Strikes
The situation began to reverse, and more and more human soldiers began to lay down their weapons, with some kneeling down to pledge their loyalty. Seeing this, Garithos's die-hard loyalists could only reluctantly lower their heads.
Rhodes' gaze swept across the entire arena, his tone softening slightly: "Rise, warriors of the Alliance."
I don't need your worship, only your loyalty and courage. Now, let's begin our work—for the rebirth of Lordaeron.
"Imprison Garithos and await trial after the war. Immediately summon all officers of the rank of centurion and above to the command tent for a meeting. We need to redeploy our defenses and formulate a counterattack plan." Rhodes nodded in satisfaction at the high morale of the Alliance soldiers.
"Yes, Your Highness!" An Alliance knight immediately accepted the order and left.
