Chapter 28 The real intention is not the wine, but the wife.
Chapter 28 The real intention is not the wine, but the wife.
Bai Si'an's face flushed: "Who said that! I just... I just want to live with my brother."
"Live with me?" Bai Rongbei raised an eyebrow. "We've slept in the same room for years, and I've never seen you this clingy."
Bai Si'an was embarrassed by his brother's words and scratched his head: "That's different."
"What's different?" Bai Rongbei crossed his arms and leaned against the doorframe. "Didn't you say that marriage is just about living together, and there's no need to care too much? What's going on tonight?"
Bai Si'an was speechless when he asked the question, and he tightened his grip on the blanket.
Seeing his expression, Bai Rongbei stopped teasing him and stepped aside to let him in: "Come in."
Bai Si'an breathed a sigh of relief and quickly squeezed in with his things.
The room was dark, but he walked inside as if he knew the way well.
The house has three rooms. Lin Weiwei and Su Wanwan live in the innermost room, which is closed. The middle room is empty, and Bai Rongbei sleeps in the outermost room.
Bai Si'an went straight to the middle room and pushed the door open.
The room was empty except for a wooden bed, which didn't even have a sheet.
He threw the blanket and pillow he was carrying onto the chair, then turned around and went out, bringing a chair back in and placing the enamel mug on it.
Bai Rongbei followed and stood at the door watching him busy himself.
Bai Si'an limped as he made the bed, his movements a little clumsy.
My right leg is weak, so when I bend over to make the bed, I have to support myself on the edge of the bed with my hands.
Bai Rongbei watched for a while, then turned around and went back to his room, ignoring him.
Inside the room, Bai Si'an finally made the bed.
He sat on the edge of the bed and took a breath.
The moonlight shone through the window and fell directly on his face.
He pushed up his glasses and looked out the window.
The windows of the next room were still dark.
He didn't actually know why he moved here.
I just feel more at ease being closer to Lin Weiwei.
Bai Rongbei lay back on his bed, his eyes open.
He could hear Bai Si'an packing his things in the next room, and the creaking sound of the bed when the kid sat down.
Bai Rongbei rolled over, facing the wall.
He actually couldn't sleep either.
Bai Si'an's words kept swirling in his mind.
"Marriage is just about living together; there's no need to take it too seriously."
That's what they say, but once you're actually married and living under the same roof, how can you not care?
Especially... he also has that problem.
Bai Rongbei closed his eyes, and Su Wanwan's image appeared in his mind.
Her focused profile as she painted the wall, her slightly flushed cheeks as she handed him water, and her soft, gentle voice when she said "thank you."
If... if he were a normal man.
If he could live with his wife like a normal husband and have a normal married life...
Bai Rongbei suddenly remembered the question Bai Si'an had asked during the day: "Brother, is there really no hope for your illness?"
He coldly replied, "No need for treatment."
But now, lying in the darkness, he suddenly felt a little hesitant.
Maybe... we should give it a try?
Even if it's just for Su Wanwan, we should give it a try.
At least, I'm no longer so resistant to doctors.
In the next room, Bai Si'an also lay down.
He turned sideways, facing the wall, behind which was Lin Weiwei and Su Wanwan's room.
Even though there's a wall between us, I feel much closer to her.
The emptiness he felt in his heart finally eased a bit.
Inside the three rooms, the two men, each lost in their own thoughts, finally fell asleep after a long while.
In the innermost room, Lin Weiwei and Su Wanwan were already fast asleep.
Lin Weiwei lay sprawled out, one leg draped over Su Wanwan.
Su Wanwan was pressed down on by her and rolled over, muttering, "Weiwei, don't push me," before falling asleep again.
The night is deep.
……
The next morning, before dawn, Lin Weiwei woke up.
I didn't wake up naturally; I was woken up by the urge to pee.
She sat up groggily and rubbed her eyes.
Su Wanwan next to her also stirred and whispered, "Weiwei... I also want to go to the toilet."
The two looked at each other and their faces fell.
"Ugh, pooping and peeing is a big problem. We can't keep running outside to poop and pee in the wild, or we'll both get carried away by wolves," Lin Weiwei said gruffly, her face contorted in distress.
"Weiwei, be more polite..." Su Wanwan felt a little embarrassed listening to Lin Weiwei's words. She sighed, "But what if we don't go?"
The two sat on the bed in a daze for a while, then Lin Weiwei suddenly slapped her thigh: "How about we build our own toilet in the yard?"
Su Wanwan was taken aback: "What should we do?"
"We'll just...dig a hole and build a makeshift shed," Lin Weiwei said, getting more and more excited. "The yard's so big anyway, it's just sitting empty. Let's make our own toilet, then we won't have to go to the public one!"
Su Wanwan's eyes lit up: "Will it work?"
"Let's give it a try!" Lin Weiwei jumped out of bed. "Let's go out and take care of this first, then come back and discuss how to proceed!"
For this grand plan, the two of them skipped their nap, quickly got dressed, and tiptoed out the door.
The outer room was quiet, and the door to Bai Rongbei's room was closed.
Just as the two were about to leave, the door to the middle room suddenly opened.
Bai Si'an was wearing a military-style shirt, not all the buttons were fastened, his hair was a little messy, and his glasses were askew on his face, looking like he had just woken up.
He was stunned when he saw Lin Weiwei and Su Wanwan.
Their eyes met, and the air fell silent for a few seconds.
"You... what are you doing here?" Lin Weiwei asked first, her eyes wide open.
Bai Si'an adjusted his glasses and said calmly, "I've moved in."
"Move in?" Lin Weiwei looked him up and down. "There's such a big house next door, isn't it better for you to live alone? Why are you squeezing in here?"
Bai Si'an remained expressionless: "I feel lonely living alone, so I'd like to live next to my brother."
Lin Weiwei said "Oh" and looked at him suspiciously.
Su Wanwan gently poked Lin Weiwei's armpit, leaned close to her ear, and whispered, "His real intention is not what it seems."
Lin Weiwei understood instantly, narrowed her eyes, and looked at Bai Si'an.
Bai Si'an felt uncomfortable being stared at, so he looked away and started buttoning his shirt.
"Fine, stay wherever you like." Lin Weiwei waved her hand, pulled Su Wanwan, and walked out. "We need to use the restroom urgently, we'll talk about it later!"
The two jogged out the door.
Bai Si'an stood there, watching their retreating figures, the tips of her ears turning slightly red.
His true intentions were not what they seemed.
But he can't very well admit it.
Doesn't he have any dignity left?!
