Chapter 83 Oath
Bain's army chose to launch the attack at 6 p.m.
If viewed from the air, one could see a dark, swarming mass of ants leaving Blackgate Prison, either clinging to the bridges that stretch from Blackgate Island to Gotham City or traveling by boat, spreading like a virus into the city.
"They have a lot of tanks."
"Lots of bullets, guns, mortars, and rockets."
"How terrifying, isn't it? A two-faced person?"
At this moment, the Penguin was sitting leisurely on the bat-shaped airplane that was suspended in mid-air. Beside him, the Ventriloquist carefully rested half of his bottom on a small stool next to the coffee table.
"I am now a five-faced man. If you call me by the wrong name again, I will shove your hooked nose into your mouth."
Harvey Dent, the two-faced man—no, the five-faced man—was standing by the window with a glass of champagne in his hand.
The Penguin was completely unfazed by Harvey Dent's appalling attitude.
He said with great interest, "Ever since the Romans and our boss Maloney left the center of power in the Gotham City mob, we've been a disorganized mess."
He said, "Black Mask, Jaws, Ventriloquists, Whisperers... all sorts of factions control the Gotham underworld. And you, Harvey."
"Your experience as a district attorney gave you access to a wealth of gang secrets, and your legal expertise made you a master at manipulating the law. You quickly rose to become a powerful figure in Gotham's underworld, an integral part of the criminal organization."
"And now, that idiot Black Mask who sold drugs has killed himself, Jaws is finished, and the three of us together basically represent the Gotham underworld. Oh, this is really exciting."
The Penguin rubbed his hands excitedly: "I've been selling arms in Gotham for so many years, attack helicopters, tanks, even jet fighters..."
He deliberately made a fake tear-wiping gesture: "Oh, how pitiful. I can't wait to see what looks like on Bane and the others' faces."
His eyes gleamed with excitement and malice.
He stood in front of the huge screen, picked up the microphone, and a projection of Gotham City appeared on the table in front of him.
"Hey, can you hear me?"
The penguin tapped the microphone.
"You scumbags!!!"
The sound emanated from the plane hovering in the air, and through the speakers, echoed in the corners of the streets below:
The legions marching on the ground looked at each other, searching for the source of the sound.
"Beep—squeak—squeak—Hello, can you hear me?"
A sinister grin spread across the penguin's face.
"It seems you can all hear me."
"Ladies and gentlemen—I warmly welcome you to our Gotham gathering, and please believe me, the outcome of this gathering... will be in our own unique way!"
……
……
……
"I am Bain."
"I have no father, only a mother."
"If my mother could see me now, she would definitely laugh at me."
"Look at how I'm dressed now."
Bain slammed his fist into the tank's front armor, leaving a deep fist mark, then punched again and again, tearing the steel plates open and pulling two living people out. Like pulling crab meat out of a crab.
"Say something like 'I am Bane'."
"She'll definitely laugh nonstop when she hears that."
"Although my mother wasn't a person who laughed often. She had suffered enough from a miserable and unfortunate life."
Bain turned his head away, covered his face with his hands, and like a bull, overturned another tank.
"But if she sees something particularly funny... she should laugh, she will laugh. Let go of those painful memories."
The bullets exploded on Bane's body, and with a deafening roar, Bane leaped high into the air and stomped a tank into a pancake.
A jet fighter swooped down from the sky, firing two missiles and a machine gun at Bane, the burst of fire reflected in his eyes.
Do you think I don't know?
"An adult puts a black and white hood over his head, rushes into someone else's city, and spouts nonsense about becoming a dictator in modern society."
Bain caught the incoming missiles with his bare hands, then threw them away like an angry little baby.
The missile exploded in the crowd, and blood rained down, soaking Bane, the blood of friendly and enemy soldiers mingling together.
The jet fighters were still roaring by.
"Like a baby, clenching its fists and venting its anger on someone—"
With a forceful pull, Bain ripped the tank's turret off. Seizing an opportunity, he leaped up and swung the cannon barrel as if throwing a giant boomerang.
"In civilized society, forcing others to obey one's orders with fists—"
boom!!!
The cannon barrel plunged straight into the fighter jet's cockpit, and the fly that had been hovering above him swirled and crashed down the street, creating a violent explosion behind Bane.
The firelight flickered on his clothes, illuminating half of his body with a shimmering glow.
"Showing off so-called brute force, tearing apart all rules, and establishing a dictatorial empire in a nation ruled by a tyrant—"
His figure vanished from the spot in an instant, and he kicked the gangster who was holding a gun. The gangster flew backward like a spinning top without making a sound, plowing a blood-red path on the ground.
"That's really funny."
The bullets couldn't penetrate Bane's defenses at all, but his clothes were almost completely torn, with only a few pieces left to cover his body, and his muscles were red from being massaged by the bullets.
"And what's even more ridiculous is that this guy, who might make everyone laugh until they scream, isn't even an adult."
The gangsters were devastated.
They screamed hysterically in terror and fled for their lives in front of Bane.
"Yes, that's right. The one who looks down on us from above and plans to conquer us is just a child."
Bain looked around. On the vast battlefield, he realized that he was now the only one left, surrounded by countless corpses lying haphazardly.
There were his men and his enemies. But they were no longer here; only Bane remained.
So Bain stepped over the lying corpses, over his dead men.
He leaped over guns, over burning fires, over the wreckage of destroyed tanks, over the hills and plains of his heart, an invisible hurricane swirling around his body, making his run seem almost like flying.
"That child whose father ran away and whose mother was beaten to death. But he didn't understand, nor did he properly mourn his mother. Instead, he knelt down and made a vow."
Flames shone through the hood and were reflected in Bane's burning eyes.
"I swear by the blood of my parents."
"I will avenge their tragic deaths..."
"I will spend the rest of my life on this—"
"Conquer all evil!"
