Chapter 14 Nobody wants to fail when it comes to getting things done.
Jung Eun took the hot dog, somewhat speechless, and finally only said, "This isn't right, is it?"
Jason glanced at Zheng En, thought for a moment, and said, "Indeed." He then reached for the table and said, "Here."
This time, he handed Jung Eun a Coke.
Zheng En hesitated for a second, then immediately accepted. And you know what? Eating hot dogs, drinking cola, and listening to gunfire was really exciting.
The shooting inside the store stopped shortly afterward. The two teenagers who had attempted the robbery were injured and ran outside in a panic.
The gunfire stopped, and Moore called them to get up. "It's safe, guys."
He twirled the gun with a flourish, his slightly stubby fingers displaying a dexterity that belied his appearance. "Relax, this is just a minor incident."
Jung Eun and Jason crawled out from under the table together.
With immense respect, Zheng En exclaimed, "Gotham is truly amazing."
Moore blew on the muzzle of his gun. "Outsider, you should see more of the world."
Zheng En ate a lot, while Jason ate slowly. The two chatted as they ate. After this little episode, and with the power of money, their relationship took a qualitative leap. It was a case of "we were not meant to be, but you made the money."
Upon learning that Jung Eun wanted to find a nice place to stay for the night, Jason couldn't help but ask him, "What's your budget?"
He could tell that Zheng En wasn't from a wealthy family, at least not the kind of upper-class person who would eat a couple of bites and then throw it away.
His clothes and pants were all common styles, and he ate his hot dog quickly and hastily, as if he hadn't eaten for several days. He looked no different from ordinary people in other parts of the city.
But he was surprisingly generous with his money.
To be honest, Jason still feels like he's dreaming.
How could someone like that give himself so much money without any psychological burden?
Is it out of kindness, or is there ulterior motive?
He tried to figure out Zheng En's thoughts, but for the players, this was just part of submitting quest items to obtain clues.
Zheng En didn't really grasp the value of US dollars. "Three or four hundred?" Staying in a safe hotel in a place like Gotham must be expensive.
Although this amount of money is almost a thousand RMB, the actual spending power should be about the same if you earn and spend US dollars.
Moreover, now that he has traveled through time, who would compare real-world prices with virtual cities in different universes in another timeline?
Jason gasped when he heard the number Jason had just revealed, looking at him with the disdainful gaze one might give a creature of another species.
Do you know what three or four hundred means in the East District?
Jason realized as soon as he said it that the other party had just given him 160. It would be a miracle if this person knew the significance of 300 or 400 in the East District!
Jason glanced in Moore's direction, and seeing that the other wasn't paying attention, he lowered his voice and spoke to Zheng En, "Watch your words, don't let people know you're a rich fool!"
Hey, how can this kid talk like that!
Zheng En gave him a light tap on the forehead, and the kid grimaced and covered his head. "Fine, fine, fine, okay, you're a rich, naive philanthropist, alright?"
"Isn't this exactly the same?"
Zheng En knocked again, and Jason, who was on guard this time, still couldn't dodge it. He had no choice but to change his tune, "Anyway, there aren't any hotels of this caliber around here. You'd have to cross the bridge to the Upper East Side to find one, but it's hard to get a taxi here, and the bus stop is quite a distance away."
"If you want to find a proper, safe room to rent, you'll have to go during the day. But if you only need to stay overnight, I have an idea."
The child's eyes are clear and bright, and when they turn, they look mischievous and clever.
Zheng En suddenly had a bad feeling.
This premonition grew stronger and stronger, reaching its peak when he saw the neon-lit street not far away.
"Here it is."
Seeing Jason push open the small door at the alley entrance, the hotel's name was painted in white on the gray-black wall. Zheng En breathed a sigh of relief and followed him inside.
Sitting at the front of the table was a middle-aged black woman with an afro. She looked up at Zheng En and Jason, her face expressionless. "A double room is $15 an hour, $70 a night. Don't cause any deaths."
Jason yelled at her, "That's not what I do!"
Jung Eun couldn't hold back any longer: "I don't look like a perverted priest, do I?"
The woman tapped her ear with her little finger, pretending not to hear.
After paying the money and getting the keys, Zheng En could clearly hear a loud shout coming from somewhere as she went upstairs. She realized that she had relaxed too early, so she silently quickened her pace, invited Jason in, and immediately closed the door.
He breathed a sigh of relief after the lock clicked shut and the sounds from outside subsided.
Then he saw Jason standing at the window, watching him warily: "Are you sure you've never been a priest and have no intention of becoming one?"
Jung Eun looked completely bewildered: "?"
He looked at Jason incredulously: "You're the one who brought me to this godforsaken place!"
Jason tilted his head, whistling to avoid Jung Eun's gaze. "Isn't this because you wanted to find a safe place to spend the night?"
Jung Eun was speechless. "Does this place look safe to you?"
Upon hearing this, Jason gave him a look that said, "You just don't understand."
"You outsiders are easily misled by appearances," he analyzed logically. "Being able to open a shop in a place like this means you have a gang backing you up, so no thieves or hooligans would dare to cause trouble."
"Moreover, the most important thing when doing this kind of thing is to find a safe and stable environment."
He stated unequivocally, "No one wants to back down when it comes to getting things done!"
Jung Eun remained silent. "...For a little kid, you really know a lot more than that." Is this the true value of the name Gotham?
Jason: "You're right, aren't you?"
"That's absolutely right, you're a genius."
After seeing Jason off, Jung Eun was finally able to have some peace and quiet by herself.
He carefully inspected the bed, making sure there were no unspeakable marks on the sheets, blankets, or pillows before he felt relieved and pounced on it.
After talking with Jason, he had a general understanding of the prices here.
$70 a night isn't cheap in the East Side, but you get what you pay for. This hotel has good soundproofing and the bed is clean, which will allow him to get a good night's sleep.
But before that, he still needs to finish the mission.
[Daily Tasks]
[A big meal (completed)] [A place to stay (incomplete)] [Contact information (incomplete)]...
With a thought, a shimmering blue panel suddenly appeared in my field of vision, just like the high-tech light screen often seen in special effects blockbusters.
The narrow bar on the left side of the panel displays various completed or incomplete tasks, while a chibi-style character with three heads appears on the right.
Black hair, black eyes, fair complexion, and two large characters on his head.
Zheng En.
