Chapter 36 A Manifestation Before the Public
Chapter 36 A Manifestation Before the Public
Everyone turned around and saw a group of people walking through the thin mist at the end of the Morning Glow Lawn.
Leading the group was a young girl with long, reddish-brown hair, the iron rings at the end of her braids jingling. She walked with a brisk pace, almost exuding an ancient charm.
Behind her followed seven or eight dwarf apprentices, each with a thick beard, iron hammers at their waists, and piercing eyes, as if they were there to cause trouble.
"It's Senior Amber!" someone recognized her: "The outstanding exchange student from the Dwarven Alchemy Academy!"
"The current alchemy prodigy, a third-year student at the Fire Academy!"
"I heard she's already capable of forging mid-tier rune weapons independently!"
Exclamations of surprise rose and fell, and even the reserved noblemen in the front row couldn't help but turn their heads.
This is truly amazing.
Putting aside Amber's exceptional appearance and her mysterious aura stemming from her background at the Dwarven Alchemy Academy, the fact that she was part of the Alchemy Workshop meant that all students in the academy had to go through the workshop to create magical items, protective gear, alchemical artifacts, and so on, making her a figure of great interest to the academy.
Furthermore, as a student, being specially invited to a class during a lecture by an academy professor was incredibly surprising to the new students. The world of magic is strictly hierarchical, and Silver Academy is a place that values respect for teachers. The fact that she was able to appear in Professor Melenie's class inevitably sparked everyone's speculations.
What on earth happened that this third-year dwarf alchemy genius would appear in the freshmen's class?
Viola was also surprised and tugged at Lorne's sleeve:
"Lorne, look! That woman, I heard she's the top blacksmith in the Fire Academy, and a half-dwarf! What's she doing here?"
Lorne's heart skipped a beat when he saw that familiar fiery red figure.
Not good.
This is very bad.
He instinctively shrank back, but Amber's gaze swept over him like a searchlight, lingering on him for a fraction of a second, her lips curving upwards in a "I've found you" smile.
Lorne's eyelids twitched, and he pretended to bend down to straighten the corner of his clothes.
Professor Meligne nodded slightly, gesturing for Amber to come closer, and then faced the crowd:
"Amber has come here on behalf of the Dwarven Alchemy Workshop and the Forge Sanctuary to express her gratitude to a student and to award them corresponding academic credits."
The lawn was quiet for a moment, then suddenly erupted into a commotion.
"Thanks? A reward?"
"What reward? What did one of us freshmen do to warrant the attention of the Dwarven Alchemy Workshop and the Forge Sanctuary?"
"Wait, I've heard something. Recently, there's only one thing related to the dwarven alchemy workshop: the problem of limited red gold production has been solved by one of the top talents in our academy. They've developed a substitute formula!"
"Isn't that something the upperclassmen in alchemy handle? What does that have to do with us freshmen... No way!"
"Wait a minute! I have a bold guess!"
Those who are able to enter Silver Academy are not stupid; they naturally have some intelligence. Those students who are not quick-witted were eliminated during the entrance examination.
After a brainstorming session, many students came up with a guess that they themselves thought was absolutely impossible.
"Could it be that the person who solved the problem of the Crimson Gold... is among us?!"
"The dwarves kept it a secret. It's said that the senior students who were there at the time were told not to spread the word, but everyone guessed that it must have been some senior alchemy genius."
"Now that Senior Amber is here, could it be... that she's a freshman like us?"
"How is this possible?! We've only just begun our magical journey, barely possessing any magical skill. We haven't even taken an alchemy class yet. How could anyone have such profound magical knowledge?"
A rumble of thunder echoed through the crowd, and the whispers grew louder and louder, threatening to escalate into a small storm. Everyone's eyes began to search through the crowd.
Those students from privileged backgrounds also straightened their backs, their faces showing a reserved expectation. Although they all knew it wasn't them, sometimes people have a talent called "sharing honor."
If any freshman possesses such alchemical skills, it would undoubtedly only be among students from distinguished families with an alchemical background.
The boys around Chrysace also became excited and lowered their voices:
"Cryseth, it can't be you, can it? Didn't you say before that your family had some kind of business with the dwarves...?"
Chryseth shook his head. He knew it wasn't him, but his gaze involuntarily swept around, and his brows furrowed slightly.
If it really is from the new group, then he might have to relinquish his position as the number one in elemental manipulation, which he had previously decided on. He looked around and saw that the faces of the people around him were all blank, obviously unaware of the situation.
"Could it be... really me?" A ridiculous thought even flashed through his mind, but he quickly suppressed it.
How could he possibly do something he himself hasn't even done?
"Who is it?" someone couldn't help but shout.
Amber smiled slightly and raised her hand to signal everyone to be quiet.
Her gaze swept past the proud noblemen in the front row and landed directly on the figure at the very back, who was trying to hide behind Tormont. She spoke loudly:
"Junior Lorne, it's been a few days. What's gotten into you hiding behind the Attack on Titan fanfiction?"
All eyes turned to the back of the room.
Tormont looked down at Lorne, who was huddled in his shadow, then at the countless burning gazes ahead, and scratched his head in confusion:
"Brother Lorne, they're calling you."
"...I heard you." Lorne walked out from behind the giant boy with a blank expression, feeling like a rabbit under a spotlight.
"Lorne?!"
Viola's voice was louder than anyone else's. Her eyes widened, and her mouth formed an "O": "You know Senior Amber?"
"I guess so," Lorne said listlessly.
"What do you mean 'consider'! She's calling you! Could it be... could it be that the person who solved the Crimson Gold Problem...?"
Viola's voice grew increasingly incredulous, and her expression became more and more distorted: "It's...you?"
Lorne didn't answer, because Amber strode over and patted him on the shoulder.
"It's him."
Amber has a clear and resonant sound.
"An alloy made of copper and white copper to replace pure gold costs less than fifteen percent of the original and has a magic conductivity of ninety-two. This is the work of this student, Lorne."
The entire room fell silent.
Then, it exploded with a bang.
"!!!!!!"
"Holy shit!"
"Holy crap!"
"impossible!"
"With only a level six mental affinity, he probably hasn't even completed his magic initiation yet, right?"
