A certain Hogwarts professor of runes

Chapter 112 Special Tutoring

Chapter 112 Special Tutoring

Later that day, Felix and Snape mentioned their conversation with Dumbledore, and the professor silently left.

Perhaps he didn't hold out any hope... Felix thought silently as he watched his retreating figure.

Saturday arrived, and Felix finally had a long stretch of free time.

He took out the memory charm data copied from Lockhart's office and began to study it carefully. It was clear that Lockhart valued this data very much; it was filled with seemingly plausible personal annotations, and some of the ink was still very fresh, no more than two weeks old.

Lockhart hasn't been completely idle for the past six months.

Felix guessed that Lockhart might never have taken teaching seriously, just wanting to coast through the year. He figured he'd sell a lot of books, improve his memory magic, and most importantly, write a book similar to "The Cursed Professor" or "My Year at Hogwarts."

This was no challenge for Lockhart at all; he could even modify old, discarded stories and use them directly.

At least from the interview transcripts copied by the trio, he saw a considerable amount of content about the old wizard with the crooked mouth's experience of solving the curses on dark magic items, but this part was not included in his "Wandering with Werewolves".

If Lockhart intended to link this part to the curse of Hogwarts and portray himself as a master at breaking the curse, it would be perfectly reasonable.

Felix ignored Lockhart's own annotations in the document and carefully read the original manuscript—although "original manuscript" is not quite accurate, since the entire document was copied by Lockhart, which was what he regretted most.

But from the style between the lines, he still felt a sense of familiarity.

Whose legacy did Lockhart inherit? Was it from some master of memory magic?

Felix thought of the thousands of magic books in the Mind Chamber, and a headache began to creep in. Finding this person based on similar styles was a massive undertaking...

As evening approached, Felix breathed a sigh of relief and put down the documents in his hand.

The harvest was very fruitful.

Besides Lockhart's signature spell, Oblivion (Ancient Magic Version), he also acquired some scattered and trivial tips on memory magic.

By combining Lockhart's, the diary, Snape's, and his own insights into memory magic, perhaps with some effort, one can acquire a new sixth-level spell.

Should he opt for a brain shut-off procedure or complete oblivion? For Felix, it was a truly difficult choice.

"Moreover, with two versions of the Oblivion Spell, I have the opportunity to sort out the simplified ideas of modern magic, trace back to its origins, and restore modern magic to ancient magic."

Just like the incomplete ancient magic that Professor Flitwick gave him, it is very likely the precursor to the Shrinking Charm and the Enlarging Charm.

This is another long-term project, but for Felix, it's a highly profitable venture.

Felix kept thinking, feeling that his greatest gain from returning to Hogwarts, besides the ever-increasing number of useful ancient runes, was this trip.

He even drew parallels from this material, finding many interesting ideas that could resolve the confusion arising from the diary.

"Lockhart is truly a treasure of a wizard; it's a pity he's going to Azkaban."

……

A little later, his assistant arrived right on time.

Felix put away the memory spell data and took out a two-foot-thick piece of parchment from the corner.

These are the assignments submitted by the young wizards in their dueling class.

"Well... we've clearly divided the roles. I'll give the evaluation, and you'll take notes," Felix said, feeling that his assistant had performed somewhat poorly in his sparring with Harry.

But she was the most determined of all the young wizards who learned the Disarming Charm according to her own "splitting method".

Special treatment is necessary.

"This one..." Felix picked up the first parchment, looked at the data in the table on it, and "tsk tsk!" He didn't say anything and handed it to Hermione.

"Professor, what should I write?" the little witch asked, holding a quill pen in her hand.

"Give him a question mark, exaggerate it a bit."

Hermione: "???"

"The data is fabricated," Professor Heap said briefly.

"Professor Haip, how did you figure that out?"

"His stats are excellent, but I've noticed him in dueling class. He hasn't learned the Disarm Charm, and he even has problems with the most basic wand pose... He might have just copied the stats of a top student."

Hermione nodded and wrote a question mark on the parchment.

"The second one, let me take a look..." Felix circled a few lines of data. "His problem is that his foundation is too weak. I suggest reviewing specific chapters in the Spellbook. It's mentioned in detail in the materials. Miss Granger, could you mark the specific entries for me?"

"Okay." She wrote down "the content mentioned in the fifth point of the key study materials" with ease—she had memorized the study materials on the disarming spell very well.

After Hermione finished writing the annotations on the parchment, she looked at the data circled by Felix and immediately understood.

This student named El Booz focused most of his questions on the broad category of "Operating Procedures," while other categories such as "Essential Theories," "Spellcasting Mindset," and "Understanding Magic" were barely touched upon.

Time passed slowly, and Hermione continued to write down various suggestions on parchment according to Professor Hyp's instructions. Professor Hyp wasn't doing nothing either; he would mark the key data to make it easier for her to understand.

As she encountered more and more problems, her understanding of the disarming spell became clearer and clearer.

She could understand most of Felix's suggestions by comparing them with the key data highlighted by the professor.

This is a matter of operational procedures, this is a matter of mindset... This is also reflected in my self-evaluation.

Felix also offers various tips, such as the mindset for casting spells. His method is to "imagine a tall, fierce-looking person wielding a broom and attacking you, and use your mind to make the broom fly away."

She then wrote down Professor Hyp's explanation: "The mindset for casting the disarming spell is a self-preservation mindset; it requires a resolute attitude to deprive the enemy of the ability to harm you."

Hermione couldn't help but ask, "Professor, do we have to maintain this thought while casting the spell?"

"Once you're proficient, it won't be necessary. Some elite Aurors can even cast the Disarming Charm in their sleep. But when you haven't mastered the spell, this right mindset will speed up your learning."

Hermione nodded.

After grading half of the papers, Hermione yawned without any regard for her image.

"Let's continue tomorrow night. I suggest you spend more time practicing the Disarming Charm during the day tomorrow; you might be pleasantly surprised," Felix said to his assistant.

The next evening—

"You've really improved!" Hermione said excitedly to Felix.

She didn't wait until daytime; instead, she practiced alone after returning home last night.

It was a strange feeling; the moment she waved her wand, she could realize where she hadn't done well enough.

The suggestions and tips I had written down kept popping into my mind.

During the day, she spent a lot of time practicing and was improving at a rate that was almost visible to the naked eye.

Felix smiled. "After we finish grading today, I think your understanding of the Disarming Charm will be excellent."

……

The following week flew by, and the answer parchments used only in fifth and seventh grade began to appear in ancient runes classes in other grades.

The young wizards started discussing this new teaching aid more and more.

One day in the auditorium, Professor McGonagall asked him about the parchment containing the answers to the questions, and Felix answered her cheerfully.

Professor McGonagall remained where she was, looking thoughtful.
